I've been thinking about MH as we all likely have these last couple of days. I watched the Hearn war again yesterday and the memories came flooding back. All those years where that one word 'Hagler' was all that was needed to sum up a boxer so ahead of the game that the result was assured before the bell sounded. I was still a kid when he fought SRL and at the time I was swayed by the style of Sugar Ray. At the time it seemed like the matador and the bull. Hagler seemed like the terminator, he had a fearsome aura about him that even seemed to transmit through the tv.

With all those wins I think everyone took Hagler for granted until he'd gone and then, like a fine wine, the appreciation for his talents has gradually risen until he was accorded the respect he deserved. Although this is my perspective from across the ocean, so maybe others will disagree.It's only later that I came to realise how simplistic my childish view of this man was, and what an incredible boxer he was as well as having some opponents quaking before the bell rang, which is not a bad skill to have. Most importantly of all, he looks to have won the respect of all who knew him. A kind and thoughtful man when he wasn't dishing it out in the ring.

What a sight was this man,
Hagler he was called,
Face grim with resolve,
Pate glistening and bald,
In the ring he was awesome,
Not a flaw to be found,
Switching stance if he chose to,
In the midst of the round,

He reigned at a time,
Of not one king but four,
Those fights with his rivals,
Now form boxing lore,
He left us too soon,
But remember him thus,
That there's only one man,
Who we called Marvellous,

Hagler is my favourite boxer and I always think of him when im running and wanting to take a rest or when its raining/snowing and im not in the mood.
What would Hagler do? Then I stop being a ***** and continue.

I feel he is the best middleweight ever, who was threated unfairly in a way many regular people can relate to in life.
He was a man's man who paid his dues and deserved his retirement in luxery.

Was very sad to learn he had died.
