Taking a break is just as important as the conditioning portion in boxing. My understanding is that the body needs to periodically rest parts of the body that are highly conditioned. So what is that time frame? Well, many professional training camps are six weeks long. Is this a good indicator that if you train for six weeks you will reach your peak? After you peak, than you should take a couple extra days off to rest before starting another six weeks? What are your thoughts?
it depends how you train, ross emnait goes through this in his book. You can train continually through out the year without "breaks" if it is structured properly.
i dont believe professional training camps are a good indicator of anything unless your a professional boxer. They train for a specific date for a professional fight where they need to peak only for that day. As an amateur boxer or just someone who trains to be in shape you need to be in top shape all year round. The 50 day example program ross does is structured 4 days on 1 day off. Its in the infinite intensity book, it explains the periodisation training approach. Sorry but im going to rip him off by typing up his book lol :yep
yes, im not saying its the best book out there for this, but it does cover this topic and many more. When i got it i thought it was going to just be training routines and exercises but it is good in that everything is explained and its understandable even to me of WHY you are doing what you are doing. Im sure if you wanted to learn specifically about this there are better books though or do some research on the net and see what you come up with. Like most things you need to read as much as possible and make up your own mind what you think works.
Just remember you don't get fitter from training... it's the recover that allows progression. No recovery, no progression.
its amazing how true this is. Im fitter probably the last 6 months - a year now i started resting and recovering properly than i ever was before. I do less now in terms of time, but sooo much more in terms of quality.
shoot... i actually had this book sitting on my shelf for three years now without reading smaller book. the "taper" portion was exactly what i am looking to read more about.
