The Leonard win is really unfair, but that aside, there's little between the two resumes: Leonard, Buchanan, DeJesus 2x, Palomino, Barkley, Marcel, Moore, Viruet 2x, Lampkin, Kobayashi, Ishimatsu, Villa, Castro, Minchillo, Cuevas, Mamby, etc. vs Barrera 2x, Morales 2x, Marquez 2x, Cotto, Hatton, Bradley, Sasakul, Ledwaba, Clottey, De La Hoya, Mosley, Hussein, Diaz, Battery, Margarito, Larios, Solis, etc. Duran's far superior prime dominance, his downright freaky longevity, and his just being the flat out better fighter (again, combined with that monumental Leonard win) is what makes for such a big difference in their ATG rankings, but top to bottom, Pac's resume isn't lagging too far behind.
Pacquiao - better resume in lower wieghts with names like Barrera, Morales, Marquez....Duran - better resume in higher weights with Hearns, Hagler, Leonard, Barkley. Over all, Duran takes it
Pacquiao went up in weight and fought Margarito, a weight drained cotto and ODLH, DUran weng up in weight and fought SRL, Hearns and Hagler, even if he didnt win all of them he still won a legit middleweight champion, Pacquiao and Mayweather are great but Duran is greater
Duran could box and KO people, he also beat his rival 1/2 (the 3rd fight shouldnt count) Pacquiao and Mayweather didnt fight each other so that fact alone puts them below Duran
considering that none of the other Fab 4 beat SRL DUran beating him, even if it was just once is pretty great, and what do you mean by easily? what was your score for the 2nd fight? people over react because DUran quit and make it out to be a shut out
I'm surprised the poll's that close... It's just my opinion, but Duran's resume is far better than Pacquiao's. Just the SRL win shits a massive dump over pretty much any of Pac's accomplishments.
I was shocked when I had a look at this thread, which is why I revived it. Nothing either Pac or Floyd did compares to getting in the ring with Hagler. Pac wouldn't have went the distance, Floyd might have but he'd be running the whole time. He certainly isn't going to be trading with him. But Floyd sure as hell wouldn't have gone the distance with Barkley, of that I'm sure, and Pac would have been destroyed by Barkley. He was throwing some damn hard shots in that fight, and he had good reach and was going to the body. His fatal mistake was not using size the way Hearns did. Even watching the Moore fight you can see that Duran took a fair amount of punishment to eventually destroy him. I always thought his defense was underrated and it is, but his ability to take a punch was miles ahead of both Pac and Floyd, (who was wobbled by an over the hill Mosley).
I think they are close and when they are that close to get a clear winner you ahve to start nit-picking. Duran moved up and fought legit fighters at they're weight no catchweights.....imagine him making SRL fight at 145? Or going up and fighting at 150 or 151 whatever the weight was? Im not buying it....DURAN for me!
