    Imagine the following scenario....

-Superman turns out to be real and weighs 11 stone
-The superman films happen to give an accurate portrayal of his physical abilities, however his problem with kryponite was just an urban myth of some sort.
-In his debut fight, he KOs Tyler Hughes with one jab (Hughes - http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=7199&cat=boxer)

The result of this chain of events is:
-Superman is a boxer with no names on his resume
-Superman is clearly the best fighter in the world, and is named P4P number one despite having a rather poo resume, with no depth.

-Superman however is not the greatest fighter in the world as that is completely different and we need to factor in resume here.

(This extreme example makes it clear resume is meaningless.
It also means that if like me you have superior insight to other boxing fans you should absolutely name Joe Calzaghe the all time P4P number one, due to the gifts you are able to recognise from his fights against good but not great fighters.)

But if an opponent turns up with kryptonite then superman is beaten, and clearly not "the best boxer in the world".

Therefore superman is only as good as his opponents let him be. Resume again prevails.

If he KO'd a guy with more losses than wins(21 of those 24 losses coming by way of KO) than how is that a strong indicator of his ability in the first place?

Either way, what does it matter? Calzaghe doesn't hold that kind of superiority ability wise or in any other way over the rest of the boxing world. Never has.

I see where you are going with this, but you could have chosen a better example than Tyler Hughes

I expect the high quality of critique my thread deserves to be posted here.

By high quality I do not mean an essay, clear concise points are the thing required.

I am quite confident nobody can truly justify, in a serious post, not placing Superman at P4P number one.

    Better question:

Have Calzaghe fans over-taken Pac fans on this board?

Trying to be clever fails as Superman is not perfect.

Anyway, If Calzaghe flys into the ring wearing a cape, and cuts through the ropes with laser beams projecting from his eyes; I'm quite happy to consider a p4p no1 spot for him.

But as we are judging his ability based off the movies, most fighters know his weakness.

ANY decent fighter would then enter the ring with Kryptonite (it'd probably be easier to do so then taking steroids, for example, which is rampant)...

So yeah, superman would struggle to make a top 30 p4p list. And would probably struggle to have a winning record.

So no, resume, ONCE AGAIN, prevails.

And even so, I can think of AT LEAST 100 boxers in the past 20 years who have more, if not twice more, the ability as Joe Calzaghe.

So how does this superman anaolgy apply to an average fighter? Moreso to a Roy Jones, whose resume [which is still TWICE as good as Calzaghe's] doesn't match his ability... THEN, you'd have a half decent point. But Joe? What skill does he have the another fighter doesn't possess BETTER than he does?

Speed? No. Workrate? No. Defence? No.

Hell would freeze over when the day comes that I actually write 100 names that are better than Calzaghe for a Calzaghe fanboy.

It's easy. Just think, without bias. :yep

You would have to be extremely biased to think there are 100+ better (or more talented) in the last 20 years. 100 in history and you might have a point.

    Superman lost to Ali.
Yes, this actually happened in a Superman book, and this was the Ali that just lost to Leon Spinks. So Superman's ATG status is somewhere beneath Leon Spinks'.

The truth is you shouldn't even be on this forum.
Remember what you said before the Hopkins bout, something along the lines; "If Bernard hits Joe more than 30 times I will personally take my hat off and leave this forum. If Bernard wins more than two rounds I will leave this forum for good"

    Well you didn't leave, you're a ***** :hi:
