The CV of BJ Flores has improved now, after The Contender wound down, due to the performance of Hino Ehikhamenor. Hino went 3-1 on the show and ended up as the Contender Finalist, #2 in the 16-man tournament. 2 years ago, an undefeated Hino lost (by wide UD) to Patrick Nwamu for the New York State Cruiserweight title. Nwamu then went on to win the IBA Supercruiserweight title via TKO, before losing that belt (also by wide UD) to BJ Flores. Now, here's the tricky part: Troy Ross went from a fringe top 30 CW, to #9 on Ring mag's list, simply by beating Hino. Hino was 15-3, and an underdog, when he fought Ross, but was 11-0 and a red hot prospect when he took on Nwamu. Nwamu in turn was a good win for BJ Flores. By moving Ross up to #9, Ring bumped Flores to one spot off their top 10, despite him scoring a nice KO in his tune-up fight. So I ask: if Hino's perfromance boosted the standings of both men, how could it launch Ross over 20 spots in the rankings, and move an active BJ Flores behind him? By the looks of it, Oscars people are just catering to the Contender audience. Ring mag dropped the ball on this one, in my opinion. I think I like the boxrec.com ratings better :think
Yeah, I didn't get it either. Hino doing well should push Flores further up the rankings, not the other way around. Ring magazine is a good guideline, not the be all end all of ratings, so fear not. Fightnews and boxrec still have Flores above Troy Ross. :good
NEW LOGIC........ BJ got a somewhat Dubious decision win over Darnell Wilson (I had Wilson winning by the way) Ding A Ling went on to The Contender and lost a one sided decision to HINO.... The same one that got knocked out by Troy Ross at the end... Back to BJ fighting Wilson... In the span of time that BJ took off and turned down fights, Troy had 4 fights.... 3 of those by way of The Contender which is aired on telelvision.... Which in the Cruiserweight division can easily make u top 10... Troy Ross 3 of his last 5 fights ending in knockout against good opposition, on live television > > BJ being inactive and coming back against journeymen heavyweight..
BJ's body of work is more impressive though. Patrick Nwamu >>> Hino (as their fight showed), and Flores beat Nwamu via wide UD. Wilson was a better fighter when he fought Flores, he was actually in the top 10 and on an impressive winstreak. When he fought Hino he had lost 2 or 3 in a row and was out of the top 25... And Flores beat Wilson by wide UD as well, regardless of your scorecard (or the Teddy Atlas scorecard). Im saying he has a better resume, and was active recently, so he should be ranked higher.
