Good post man, the only thing I disagree with is what you said about Sturm, Martinez, and Cotto.

There are so many double standards with those guys, Canelo, and Golovkin.

People always mention and excuse Golovkin's resume because Sturm, Martinez, and Cotto did not fight him.

First off, they were old. Canelo still doesn't get full credit for Cotto and one of the reasons cited is Cotto was old and smaller. Well if Golovkin fought him, wouldn't Cotto be old, and smaller... maybe Golovkin fans wouldn't think so, maybe they would say he was close to prime.

Golovkin fans never like to give Canelo credit for becoming lineal MW champion, one of the things they state is that it was won at a catchweight, a catchweight Cotto demanded, but another reason they cite is that Cotto won the lineal MW title from a shot, no knees Martinez, so Canelo's lineal MW title isn't worth anything because the lineal champion was shot when he lost to Cotto, and also Cotto was old and small when he lost to Canelo.... but GGG fans would have loved Golovkin be the one to beat Martinez.

Secondly, GGG fans criticize Cotto and Martinez for not fighting GGG. They go as far as calling Cotto and Martinez duckers... yet the reason they didn't fight GGG was for the exact same reason GGG doesn't fight Andrade, Charlo, and even at one point Saunders. Because GGG is doing what they did and were gunning for the big money fight at the tail end of their careers.

So it's okay for GGG to avoid the top MWs because he's getting older and is waiting for a 3rd big money fight with Canelo, but Cotto and Martinez are duckers because, Martinez wanted his big money fight with Cotto, and Cotto wanted his big money fight with Canelo.

Honestly, GGG fans are cry babies, not all, but a loud large majority.

I did not intend for my post to call them duckers. All I am saying is Golovkin never got the chance to get in the ring with any of them. while you could say some of them were old, smaller, etc they would be a better feather in his cap and he would get more credit than beating guys like wade, rubio, and those types. And as my post mentioned he has big names now that want to fight him and he would be the favorite or a year or two ago when they were realistic he would certainly have been the favorite.

I did not like the catchweight stuff going on with the title and the manner in which Cotto won the belt but I think Cotto demolishing Geale at least gave him some credibility at middleweight though the catchweight tarnishes things a little. Ultimately Canelo fought GGG at 160 and any of the bs was put to rest when they fought.

    this was a joke right?

155 is middleweight. they fought for the middleweight title. What are you even doing on a boxing board discussing these topics with men like us?

No, it's not a welterweight title fight at 147.5 or 148....

    That's a junior middleweight fight....

Many interesting thoughts here but there is no getting around one fact , a prime Canelo and a past prime GGG fought on dead even terms over two bouts , twenty four rounds .. I do feel at 26 - 27 years of age with fifty plus fights Canelo was in his prime .. if you consider Canelo an all time great fighter you also have to consider GGG one as well. That's that.

This is where comprehension comes in I said in a NON TITLE FIGHT every commission or most allow 1LB so again if Thurman who doesn’t have a title fights Garcia who also doesn’t have a title tomorrow and one comes in at 147 and the other at 147.5/148 that’s still a welter fighter

He fought typically 3 times a year. More active than your average MW.

I agree but that’s what happens when you step up

I find it hysterical when people say he’s overrated, but what does that say about Clenelo? Who in the eyes of many boxing pundits lost both fights.

you’re right, the first fight was so close that over 90% of boxing writers and analysts and former fighters who scored the fight from ringside had him winning.

That doesn't mean the fight wasn't close. Most of the people you're talking about had it 7/5 for GGG. That's a close fight.
