Sorry, but I have to correct you. Henry Cooper was also counted out against Joe Bygraves (body shots) and Zora Folley in their rematch by a right hand over the top.
I used to own a book by Our ‘Enery, a British-published ‘how to box’ text. Very well explained with accompanying illustrations. Anyone who doesn’t respect Cooper doesn’t get my respect, haha. Game as they come and had some game too. That left hook was a corker! Too bad about his propensity to cut.
applause, applause and exactly my same feelings for Thousands of TOP Fighters... of course they were great fighters. Boxing would be absolutely pathetic if they weren't and reduced even further yet, when you eliminate artificial or protected champions & contenders because of Boxing Corruption & Politicking. Good for you Magoo and of course Mr Cooper, yes.
Unfortunately apart from a few highlights it isn’t on film. I think the Folley camp felt badly done to but I think the general consensus in the UK was Henry edged it, but I suppose they would!
End of year ratings Cooper was 1958 .4 1959. 4 1960.5 1961. 8 1962.10 1969.9 1970.6 Ranked men beaten; Folley. no2 London.no8 Harris .no7 Miteff.no10 Erskine.no10 London.no10 Mildenberger.no9 I was at the Mildenberger fight in1968,Mildenberger was not in top shape, coming in about 14lbs more than he had for his title challenge with Ali ,and Cooper was jabbing him pretty easily. The German was tossed out for butting and never fought again.
I know 'if' is an overused word in boxing, but I still think about 'if' Henry had landed that big left just 30 seconds earlier against Clay....
