    The politicians didn't want the match, but being poiliticians they publicly came out in support of Wills.

    I think that there is an argument to be had on this.

    History has dammed Rickard and Muldoon, but perhaps they were just trying to protect the public from violent disorder?

    Ultimately only they knew what their true motives were, but it is by no means a clear cut issue.
