All these men fought in the strongest MW era ever Billy Soose never stopped Gorilla Jones over 120 fights and never stopped. Only knocked down once Vince Dundee over 130 fights only stopped once Ken Overlin over 150 fights only stoped twice (once being in his 3rd bout) The thing that Jones, Dundee, and Overlin all have in common is they were stopped or dropped (Jones) against Freddie Steele. Dundee was dropped 13x in 3 rounds. He also knocked out Ceferino Garcia 2x.
When I need to justify Toneys chin I always ask how would Hagler have done at higher weights past his best. Marvin was made of iron but I have no doubts he would have been put unconscious. The fact Toney stood toe to toe with heavyweights way past his prime boggles my mind because he should be getting hurt by anything that lands.
Rocky Marciano Marvin Hagler Bernard Hopkins (hopefully) Joe Calzaghe Chris Eubank Steve Collins Oliver Mccall
Apparently Graham was never knocked down either, which is remarkable given the quality of his opposition. Gavilan, Monzon, Jofre and Hagler were all knocked down (although the latter was a bit dubious). Did Ross ever hit the deck? I've read that he was knocked down in one of the McLarnin fights, but there are also bios that claim he was never off his feet.
Mccall, tua, ali if you class the holmes fight as corner stepping in, holmes and foreman came close, george chuvalo, did gene fulmer was another one who came close, sugar rayrobinson,
