    Hello people.

I have just had a latrajet shoulder stabilisation after a labral tear. I have had over 30 dislocations in the past 10 years.

I was boxing up until the point that dislocations were occuring every time i sparred.

The surgery was a sucsess, and i am in shape so expect it to heal well, but i need to know if anyone has either had the surgery and returned to boxing sucsesfully, or if they know of anyone who has done the same thing.

My doc said i should be able to make a return in 6 months, but i would love to hear from others.

    Thanks guys.

I don't get what you expect to gain from this thread.

Injuries are unique to an individual. Some guys here may have had a shoulder injury and never been able to box again. Others may have had the same type of injury and became a champion. It makes no difference to you what others have done.

Listen to your doctor, let your shoulder heal and try boxing again, you won't know until you try. By the sounds of it, though, you have a pretty ****ed up shoulder, I doubt you'll get far if you constantly dislocate your shoulder.

    hey my friend,

i know how to be in your shoes,

boxed off and on for a long time, grappled for for 4 years or so anyways

anyways the first my shoulder dislocated was wrestling in university and after that
    in boxing and bjj,
later on it popped out about 8-9 times and i could not use my right at all.
so i had surgery about a year and half ago.

now i am sparring again, and may fight soon in boxing hopefully

    you know what helped me,

lots and lots of weightlifting, i dont care what any boxing coach says you have injuries you lift weights.

i know a few boxers who listened to their coaches about not lifting etc, and most have gotten re-injuried.

thank god, i have a few pro strongman and bodybuilding friends,
i really owe them a lot,
i never lifted weights before this(could be a big reason for injuries, you put so much stress on your muscles and joints doing any combat sport, you have to repair them)

they started me lifting very light, and i progressed from there.

go to a gym, do lots of weights, start light,

    get a book on bodybuilding,
    do sets etc

remember all those old coaches telling you weights are bad
also probably stopped boxing at an age where today many start boxing lol

anyways if your interested i can write out what i do
    for weights etc

Get an awesome Physical Therapist, one who's well versed in sports medicine and research it on your own. Research the structure of the shoulder ie scapula, humeros, the deltoid muscle and the rotator cuff. Also make sure your coach knows that your shoulder needs time and rehab, make sure he's not going to have you sparring next you know what I mean. Look into recovery techniques like massage therapy, ice, heat, ultra sound etc. Be extra careful that it doesn't come out after surgery because depending on what type of surgery it might be a carrer ender. Look at your style with your coach you may need to change things to accomodate the injury. Good luck to you I hope this helped, and hang in there.

how long ago was your surgery? any particular movement or throw made your shoulder come out most often? what type of shoulder exercises are you doing right now? the type of shoulder injury you experienced is serious and the longer you let it heal is probably for the better.

Physical Therapist is ofcourse the first thing for sure

that being said most of the stuff a Physical Therapist shows will help the rotator cuff quite a bit

but working the actual deltoid all 3 sides
    front,back,side
as well the traps etc, is something that only weight lifting will do
not working with 2 pound weights.
but then a good Physical Therapist will tell you this as well.

you can have a repaired rotator cuff
but you to really really work the muscles around it
