Remember when boxing didn't have a senior tour? I miss the old days. The last thing to go is a fighters power as the saying goes. Could end very badly for these old timers. If you need a refresher course in how awful it is to watch old fighters just call up the Tyson v Jones Jr fight and the consider how many years ago that was.
That is ageism. You’ve severely beaten down and destroyed young fighters who should stay out of competition, while some older, fresher men can still fight. RJJ was already washed up at 35; he should have retired then. Instead of focusing on age, you should consider how often a fighter visits the canvas. Joshua is a prime example of a young man who should start reassessing his career in boxing. He’s been knocked down at least seven times. Next time he gets KO'd, he might not get back up.
Could beat? Of course. Why not? Yes, I think the highest ranked heavyweight Ike Ibeabuchi can beat is Bum Joshua. In this video, Ibeabuchi is light sparring the silver heavyweight champion, and given the circumstances, he doesn’t look bad at all. This is a fully rusty Ibeabuchi, without high level coaching. No tune-up. Nothing. I’d give him maybe a 20/80 chance if he’s fully maxed out, at 52 years old, against a bum who’s already been knocked out cold before. 3 to 1 odds in favor of Joshua. That is realistic. 57 yo Tyson had better odds than that against Jake Paul. Prime Ike wins without question, though.
I'd give him zero chance. The rate at which the body and mind slow down at the highest level of elite sport is frightening, especially past the age of 45. Tyson convinced a few people with his training clips, but he went out there and lost to a YouTuber because he is decades past his best, same with Ike. It's dangerous for him to be getting back in the ring with anyone, but the damage he could sustain fighting a live opponent 25 years younger than him is not worth thinking about. No sanctioning body with their salt should go anywhere near his fights. In his prime he ices Joshua but that was in the mid 90's. Time waits for no man, this is dangerous, and someone needs to put a stop to it.
Mind typically doesn’t slow before 60 years old. I think Joshua is getting younger each time he visits the canvas lol. Ike is a genetic freak. Hopkins was fighting around the age of 50. Not an old grandpa yet. He feels young. Anyway, what I want to see is a 90s tournament. I couldn’t care less about the current heavyweight era that just crowned a blown up cruiserweight the GOAT, the greatest of all time lol.
At the top level of elite sport, the mind, reflexes, and body are not able to compete. Even at the elite level, 99% of athletes no longer have it at 40. Hopkins was an anomaly because he had fought at the top level for 20+ years and relied on strategy and cunning rather than power and speed. Ike is probably the toughest 50+ year old man on the planet, but the idea that he could go up against any top 10 guy and not get decimated is wishful thinking.
What I take into account is that Joshua is potentially shot. He is officially ranked in the top 10, but declining, and would probably lose to some rising top 30 guys today. His true ranking is most likely lower than 7th. Otherwise I don't think Ike would have a chance. So let's make this 90s nostalgia tournament. I don't mind if Ike fights Jake Paul after a solid tune up. He might actually do better than Tyson.
