I have been fortunate to see a lot of great fights and might be a little spoiled with the luck I have but the Wlad Sultan fight was an absolute disgrace. Before the fight i was drinking at a pub and talking to a Belfast native who explained how he was in attendance for fights like Ali Frazier, Duran Buchanan among others, which put in perspective the amazing history and aura of the building. However, in front of a packed house I saw a fight (if you can call it that) that was a complete disgrace to the legends who have walked up those three steps. I took my father who remembers the day of Friday night fights with Sandler and Pepp, and the expression on his face spoke volumes about the heavyweights. These guys literally threw no punches the entire fight. Compubox was counted on Lampley's fingers. Even with the huge Ukranian crowd the boos echoed after the first round. Things like "Dancing with Stars" and one guy even called "3 seconds" as they stood motionless in the center of the ring. The taunts were brutal and i can honestly say it was the worst fight I have witnessed in person or tv. We now have a champ who throws 50 punches for a 12 round fight. Great!!
I also wanted to add that in promotion for this fight the tickets prices were jacked up to increase profits. As a result the hard working man who pays his hard earned money was ripped off. That is why Duddy chants began in the sixth round of the main event. Anyone who tries to potray Wlad as a fighter who was fighting a more technical fight or displayng more "science" is a complete lunatic or nuthugger. It was an insult to the historical perception of "Heavyweight Championship."
Although I wasn't in the arena to watch the match, I agree and you have a valid point. i can't imagine how I would feel if I did pay money and saw such a half-assed fight, if you even want to call it that. Its good to hear a prespective from a fan's point of view, one who's also experienced the excitement of a REAL boxing fight, as opposed to the nonsense from some ultra-bias individuals, who go to the highest extremes in order to defend their most beloved fighter, regardless of what they do or how they perform INSIDE the ring. I see some individuals are still asking would anyone be upset at Wladimirs performance Saturday night; they should ask you.
