If true, this is a big shame. I disagreed with most of his views on Tyson, but overall i thought he was a superb member.

Unforgiven posted here actively for 6 years. There has got to be some reason for this, possibly a mistake.

    Congratulations!

Incidentally, I visited the Boxing HOF in Canastota, NY, last summer. A great place, I spent hours there, with my girlfriend getting more and more impatient and wondering while I was looking at 70 year old gloves worn by this Joe Louis guy. I did get her to buy a few t-shirts and a signed glove for myself, mainly to support the IBHOF.

    He wasn't.

My guess is billy boy has a direct line to the unforgiven one but for legal reasons is not one and the same.

I can't imagine a reason for said banning but there must one.

I guess the question is if you believe the experts, which experts? Here is the printed ratings for middleweights by Ring Magazine over the years.

    1958 Nat Fleischer
    1-Stanley Ketchel
    2-Tommy Ryan
    3-Harry Greb
    4-Mickey Walker
    5-Sugar Ray Robinson

(in the April, 1959 issue of the Ring, Nat Fleischer commented that "There is scarcely an old-timer who would give Robinson a chance against Stanley Ketchel.")

    1968 Charley Rose
    1-Stanley Ketchel
    2-Harry Greb
    3-Mickey Walker
    4-Mike Gibbons
    5-Tiger Flowers

March 1975 Issue--later in 1976 Ring Record Book
    1-Stanley Ketchel
    2-Sugar Ray Robinson
    3-Harry Greb
    4-Mickey Walker
    5-Billy Papke

    1987 Herbert Goldman
    1-Harry Greb
    2-Carlos Monzon
    3-Marvin Hagler
    4-Mickey Walker
    5-Marcel Cerdan

    May 1994 Issue
    1-Sugar Ray Robinson
    2-Carlos Monzon
    3-Harry Greb
    4-Stanley Ketchel
    5-Marvin Hagler

    January 2001 & 2004 Yearbook
    1-Harry Greb
    2-Sugar Ray Robinson
    3-Carlos Monzon
    4-Marvin Hagler
    5-Jake LaMotta

    (eighth-Stanley Ketchel
    (9)-Mickey Walker

Obviously, Ketchel has slipped as much or more than Dempsey, but Greb, with no film, has managed to improve his position.

When two fighters fight each other in the same years,we have a much better idea of their respective merits than each succeeding year. We go further from the truth each year, until the opinions of fighters become a hell of a lot less VALID than the contemporaries who saw these two fight.
Just like an event or tale, becomes further from the ACTUAL happening ,as
word of mouth distorts a little of the truth, year after year...Give me the choice between the time of an actual event, and years later, by and large I'll take the original story of the event...

Burt--do you rate Ketchel above Greb? Do you rate Ketchel above Robinson?

    This.

He never became disrespectful or insulting, it was always good natured boxing debate.
