I was watching the fight again ... but this time with the official scores after each round ... and as I was judging the fight myself, I found that fight to be alot closer than I expected. There were some rounds that couldve been 10-10 and there were some rounds where I felt that Mosley clearly won but they gave it to Cotto. Overall I still think Cotto won, but I wouldn't have ruled out a draw on that one. I thought after watching it the first time that Cotto had swept the championship rounds but Cotto lost the 9th and the 10th and was hurt in both rounds and was dominated by Mosley both those rounds. I seen one round in the second half of the fight and seen Cotto lose the round ... land one punch and win the round. Watching that fight further made me lean towards Cotto in his up coming bout against Margarito ... What do you guys think about Cotto v Mosley?
I believe I had it 116-112 for Cotto or 116-113. Good fight, but Cotto's cleaner and harder punches won it for me.
Thats one thing I noticed too that he was just as fast as Mosley ... he threw the more effective punches ... Cotto also threw his right hand more ... a weapon that I didn't think he had in his arsenal. But Cotto was hurt a couple of times during that fight ...
I agree with you. It could have been a draw, that is very debatable, I felt that Shane should have done alot more when he had Cotto on his bicycle, he let an opportunity pass him by. Cotto Def won the championship rounds, very good fight and i was not mad at the desicion.
Cotto struggled in a close fight with Mosely. No shame in that, Mosely is a tough fighter. No matter how many times I watch it, Cotto wins, but just by a shade. Cotto did what he had to do against a troublesome opponent. Margarito may trouble him as well, but in a different way.
he wasnt hurt. he may have been stunned for a brief moment, but definitely not hurt. nothing mosley hit him with landed and stunned him as well as the judah uppercut. i could be wrong though. i'll be rewatching it also on hbo this week.
i think i had cotto up 4 rounds......it was a great fight, both fighters were looking Elite, which is highly impressive considering shanes age
Check out the 9th round if you got the fight on tape or have access to it ... he hit Cotto with a left hook to the body then threw a right hand to the jaw and Cotto stopped and then began to back up ... and he didn't throw back punches like he did before he got hit by that right ... and he was getting pummled the rest of that round. To make things worse the Judges scored that round for Cotto ...
I was surprised how well Cotto boxed against Mosley, even later in the fight when he was moving backwards he was still landing very clean and frequently. Mosley was landing his overhand right almost at will but not putting too many combinations together. Mosley broke Cotto at one point and forced Cotto to adjust and change his style and gameplan, which he did very well. I honestly don't think there should've been a winner in this fight because it distorts the truth here, and the truth here is that Mosley is just as good as Cotto yet ranked lower than him on the WW rankings and P4P rankings....after he proved to be equal to him, still, in the ring. Close fight, too close.
i'll definitely check that out when i can. on another note. i feel you on the scoring more rounds even. i'd have to watch the fight again to see if i could score more rounds evenly. i often wonder to myself why more rounds arent scored evenly, how do you justify a round being even?
This is a fight I would love to see again. I had Cotto winning - but just like everyone else - I thought this fight could have been a draw. I didn't have Cotto winning by much. And I think Shane hurt Cotto with a Body shot - just can't remember. Would love to see them do it again.
I thought Cotto won, a draw wasnt out of the equation, but I think Cotto did enough to get the decision without to much to-do about it. Beware....looking forward to Saturday night my friend????? Try and keep thos chicken wings and Corona in your mouth when your shouting at Cotto to stop Margo, and I'll try and do the same when Im shouting at Cotto to win "nicely" :good
Margo's a dead man walking, its too bad too because I like him and the "illusion of the beast Margo" is good for boxing and I'd hate to see it destroyed by a real killer. :yep Mid-late rounds I'll be doing some celebrating at your expense! :hi:
