We all know the tragic circumstances surrounding his last fight in the ring, however, I want to discuss some of the events leading up to the fight & what may have affected the outcome. I know there are rumours about Gerald suffereing terrible headaches after the first Jackson fight. Can anyone quote any citation to this as I would be interested to see it. There are also rumours regarding Don King paying off doctors with regards to a brain scan before the Benn fight. Again, can anyone quote citation to this? What were the reasons behind Gerald's split with Manny Steward, does anyone think this affected G-Man's performance & does anyone think Manny may have been more aware that Gerald was suffering in the ring? Does anyone think the move up in weight affected G-Man? Finally what about the refereeing? I know it's hard to say with any degree of certainty but does anyone think a different referee could have changed the outcome? I know people will have some strong opinions about this, which is fine, but can we keep it clean & most importantly quote citation & references wherever possible. Trolls, take your petty squabbles elsewhere. Here's a nice tribute video for anyone who needs to remind themselves of how talented he was. the referee was poor. atsch overly fussy. he was wanting benn to get thru that 1st rd. :yep i also thought he was easy on benn on rabbit punching and that after the bell incident in the 3rd or 4th i think it was.
I saw the fight with Nigel Benn, and if he was a great boxer as you all say he was then he wouldn't of taken that much punishment from Benn. McClellan just totally abandoned the sweet science which is to hit and not get hit, because he didn't have any defense that night. Maybe if he had Stewart in his corner things would of been different, but hey that's what happened, and I really was a fan of the guy.
