He's been called a robotic Euro-bum, a mediocre boxer-puncher, a guy without heart - but clearly, if anyone calls Mikkel Kessler any of these is simply out of his mind. Of course Kessler fans and Mikkel himself can make an excuse on losing to Joe Calzaghe if they want (hand injury, hostile crowd etc.), but honestly, Kessler looked like a P4P genious even in losing and would've beaten any other fighter not named Joe Calzaghe that night (most experts said that after the fight). Of course that performance didn't come out of nowhere - he got his title vs. Puerto Rican puncher Manny Siaca, defended vs. OZ Anthony Mundine in his opponent's backyard with and overlooked, A+ performance (despite a back injury), added the WBC title in the shortest unification fight in recent memory and put on one of the most dominant performances ever at 168 vs. Librado Andrade, who's got decent chance to become a world champion himself in October, and proved several times, that despite his defensive holes, that he's a relentless warrior putting on so much pressure, that most elite fighters just melt down from the pace... Librado Andrade is a true Mexican warrior just like Antonio Margarito. Only he barely won one single minute vs. Mikkel Kessler in March 2007, in a fight that looked superb on paper, but turned out as a fast-paced, exciting and absolutely one-sided boxing clinic. But despite it was one-sided, Mikkel's performance is so close to perfection that you have to rewatch it time to time. Masterful jabbing, controlling the fight from start to finish and setting up the pace, 5-6-7-8 punch combos, aggression, counter-aggression, beautiful uppercuts, rights, very effective defense... IMO this performance of the great Dane is very overlooked (only a few saw it, as it did bad ratings on HBO, just as Calzaghe Kessler). But after watching it even on the low-quality YT videos, you won't say Kessler is a heartless robotic Euro-bum ever again. I promise. As for Andrade, even in losing - and losing big - he turned this one into an exciting fight, and he never stopped trying till the end - it was really a good championship fight. Enjoy this peace of perfection. And for Kessler's only performance surpassed it (IMO), you can watch his fight vs. Joe Calzaghe. Boxing on the highest level. :happy Kessler vs. Andrade: [yt]_8I5qwl3Iwg[/yt] [yt]xVp1toJZdZk[/yt] [yt]NcQ0SUTx2hU[/yt] [yt]ef01f36wV3I[/yt] [yt]4xiETzmV5_8[/yt] [yt]GaoFXmvYh8g[/yt] [yt]HAkC3Q5OoIw[/yt] [yt]0EYtUfyosLc[/yt] Kessler vs. Calzaghe (watch R12 and call Kessler heartless) [yt]r8tkY7FsNkI[/yt] [yt]D_5lQl_wjt4[/yt] [yt]mo17mo4UB3o[/yt] [yt]3-9xkXD8rbU[/yt] [yt]qzFW8bH90UQ[/yt]
This is one of the better performances of recent times. Against a relentless pressure fighter with great chin and good power, not that dissimilar to Margarito, and it was a domination.
i agree with you big bone,i think kessler is very underrated.the man has one loss, and that is to joe calzaghe, after a great fight!!he gave librado andrade a boxing lesson...i dont think he get the gets any credit for what he have done yet.and we all know that if your not born in the u.s,you are just a eurobum. when kessler have knocked haussler out,he will get some fights in the states, and then they can see for themselves, that kessler is a great fighter.probably the best in smw...if joe c moves up to light heavy.
i agree with you that Kessler put in a great performance against Calzaghe despite losing. But alot of what had been said here is totally off. first of all, Margarito and Andrade are not on the same level. Not even close. secondly, Kessler did not put on an A+ performance against Mundine. Not even close. Thirdly, Calzaghe had a style advantage against Kessler and a big home turf advantage. Kessler is not a natural counterpuncher, but still managed to land some good counters on Joe C. Credit to Calzaghe for adapting during the fight. Calzaghe is a great fighter and Kessler is a good one but still unproven.
unless kessler leaves copenhagen and proves that he can beat A grade opposition it's futile talking about his best wins in denmark when it is holding him back from bigger fights. he either uses the weight HBO have behind him or he falls back into european obscurity.
Where does this come from? "Until he leaves his country.." Fact is that Kessler went to Australia to meet the top contender in his very first defense - no easy defense home first and no easy opponent abroad. The best - abroad. Then he went abroad again to meet the top ranked also unified champion in a bid to unify all four belts. Very very few boxers can be said to have crossed continents for the toughest fights like that. Usually they will take gimmi fights abroad if at all. Badintentions.. when was the last time Dawson (since you call yourself Bad intentions..) left the continent in order to meet the best? See?
Complete utter bollocks and heres why. If we're meant to think that Kessler is some magical movement based boxer-puncher who has fluidity in his style based on this Andrade performance, we should consider Lennox Lewis the greatest of all time. Lennox Lewis controlled David Tua, a much better fighter, an equal chin and with far more experience than Andrade without any issues. Andrade is not a good fighter, he has an iron chin, iron resolve but the fact that he went down in his very next fight calls questions into the so called power of Kessler. Please, stop heralding Kessler, let him herald himself by winning something a little better than a Sartison or Haussler fight.
Lennox Lewis would be considered G.O.A.T if we revere the Andrade type performance as showing up a boxer to be anything more than someone who can beat on a slowly moving punching bag. The only thing that made that fight an event was Andrade not buckling, but then the very next fight, he goes down immediately to hooks? Dodgy.
Now, I consider myself a Kessler fan (Denmark is very close to home), but I am not sure how hungry he is anymore. Against Sartison it looked like he had trouble pulling the trigger on his right hand. Sartison is a tricky guy, and it might also have been a little rust on Kesslers part, but it looked to me like he did not want to take any chances at all - and that worries me. Regarding Andrades fight against Mack; he got right back up and stopped him later, didnt he?
In a way you are right. However, there is such a double standard. Yesterday a guy made a post called "I ike the way Pavlik thrases people". And it showed Pavlik against people that were called in on one days notice an couldn't even fight to begin with. Still apparently Pavlik can be heralded on such a backgorund. You see the double standard?
Kessler is underrated in nearly all facets of what he bring to the ring-most glaring is his ability to ajust in the ring. Of course when go up against today's control-the-fight master in Joe C. you don't look too swell.
