Lewis robbed in fight one Evander jacked in the rematch I had Holy winning the 2nd but Lewis winning the 1st
By the way it is unblievable that Lewis had such a great career with that kind of a china chin. Holyfield rocked Lewis nearly with every powerpunch he landed in the second fight.
I just looked it up in boxrec. It has the fight as a draw. It is right there next to Lewis TKO6 Vitali.
Watch round 3, son. Lewis was badly hurt and had to hold on Evander to survive. I know you try to defend your hero but it is like it is. Lewis was a big guy, had a great reach and a great jab and knew how to keep guys in distance ( like the Klits do it today). And if smth like a clean punch landed on him, he new exactly what he had to do to survive the round. Watch Round 1 of the Briggs fight and the whole Vitali fight for example.
Thats underlining my point. Tua catches him with a clean left hook, Lewis whobbles against the ropes and the round is over. Vitali catches him with a monster right hand, Lewis is obviously hurt and holds on and gets another 10 seconds to recover. Lewis had a bad chin but he was able to recover very fast. Especially after he started to work with Manny Steward he learned all the things he had to do to survive.
I think your view of a weak chin is wrong. You can have a weak chin but with a great defence and the right tactic, you can manage it not to get knocked down or out. Roy Jones has one of the worst chins in boxing history but never got knocked down or even hurt until his reflees slowed down. Wlad has a weak chin but managed to take some bombs from Haye by holding and grabing. Thats my point.
Show me any footage of prime Roy Jones taking a clean powerpunch similar to the ones he got KOed later and i will apologize for everything!
McCallum? Griffin? Where the hell did these guys land solig shots on Roy? I am talking about punches like the one Johnson or Tarver knocked him out with. Roy toyed with McCallum and Griffin. Griffin gave Roy his toughest fight back then but won rounds on workrate and the punches he landed were defused by Roy and his incredible Reflexes.
So in which part of this Video is Roy Jones taking a bomb? This Video shows that Prime Roy barely got hit. I cant see him taking devastating shots. All he takes is a bunch of Jabs and Slaps most of the time. The first real Bomb he took put him to sleep. But it was a nice try :good
That weoght jumping def. made it even worse but Jones always had a weak chin! You cant get a china chin only by moving weightclasses and taking roids. Look at James Toney, moved from MW to HW and was full with juice and he took the hardest HW punches without problems.
I do acknowledge that Lewis engaged more and exchanged without going straight back like he did when Holyfield went for the hunt in the first fight. Holyfield stayed on the ropes a lot of time to catch Lewis off guard in the first fight too. But in the second bout, Holyfield would always launch spirited attacks like he did in the fisrt Bowe fight and he was not hurt if not for one single uppercut in the end stretch. For me to call the first one a draw and the second one a UD for Lewis had a lot to do with the HBO politics and comments from the first result up to the rematch and that has a lot of influence on the judges minds. If Holyfield benefited from being american in MSG, NYC, then Lewis did bet all the benefit from being a HBO fighter, pardon me.
Just look at CompuBox for the fight. Only Mayweather-Gatti seemed like a bigger massacre on the stat sheet. Lewis out landed, out threw, had the higher connect %, had the higher power punch output, higher power punch connect %. Literally he did everything better than Holyfield did and it was probably the biggest robbery of my lifetime. only Martinez-Cintron might be bigger because Cintron should have been KO'd and DQ'd. Edit: Here is something I did for another Lewis-Holyfield 1 thread:
