One "sucker-punch", wihich wasn't even really egregious. Given that the ceremony of apology had already taken place (Mayweather tapped gloves with Ortiz as the point was being deducted., Floyd was well within his rights to continue fighting once the action resumed (which it did when Cortez waved them in). Hell, he could have hit him as he was coming in for that hug and would have been within his rights to do so. hi

After Floyd hit him with a F-you left hook, Ortiz stared blankly at the official with his hands down. The fact that Floyd finished matters with a follow-up punch (the right hand) was only to be expected.

The bold red part stood out SO much and really made me believe the whole thing was scripted. Floyd absolutely had that planned. For lack of a better word, that whole circus looked scripted and fixed, it was really that ridiculous. No matter how many times I watch it, it doesn't look real.

Floyd wasn't protecting himself at all times after Ortiz did the headbutt. He turned away from Ortiz and towards Cortez to tell how bad the headbutt was. Ortiz had a wide open shot on Floyd with the left hook, but did Ortiz chose to change the direciton of that left hook when Cortez called break? Would he get credit for deciding not to land that punch and taking a free shot.

It could have been a case of a scripting gone terribly wrong. But in any case it was Floyd who violated the not protecting himself at all times. Ortiz's statement was that he was simply following the referee's instructions and thought he had called break when Cortez went to talk to the timekeeper. In this case I think it was Ortiz who was too focused and trusting of the referee. But it was terrible refereeing and I've yet to hear Cortez give a rational explanation for why he would take his focus off the combatants and walk away to talk to the time keeper in such a crucial moment.

if the roles were reversed ? if floyd lost his cool inside the ring because he could not land clean on a slick as hell victor ortiz who was counterpunching him and he got so mad and lost so much focus he resorted to a blatent obvious headbutt ?.

ortiz called time in and motioned for the fights to box THEN he looks over to the timekeeper or someone ringside and misses floyd hitting ortiz whilst ortiz was YET AGAIN trying to apologise. floyd did similiar thing to shane mosley who kept trying to have a conversation with floyd during the later rounds of their fight. you wanna talk, go ahead but when the times in i can hit you I WILL

You brought up a good point that Ortiz tried to hug Floyd again this time he did it on his own when the ref didn't make him. Floyd sort of hugged him back then realized he was mad at Ortiz for hugging him again and maybe that's what set Floyd off to land the shot when Cortez was tied up with the timekeeper. I doubt Floyd would have thrown that shot had Ortiz not tried to hug him again. If Ortiz would have just stood there waiting for Cortez to return I doubt anything crazy like that would have happened. It was the act of Ortiz deciding on his own to walk up to Floyd and hug him a second time which led to Floyd throwing that shot.

Ortiz got what he deserved in my humble opinion. As for Larry Merchant he could never kick Floyd’s arse. I know Larry thinks he is a tough guy. It there is a difference between being a commentator in a tough sport and being a tough guy yourself.

I know so true. I hated that the fight ended like that because I wanted to see more. I wanted to see what would have happened had it gone a couple more rounds what other crazy stuff would have happened.
