Underrated fighter. Good movement, solid boxer. Nothing flashy, just won. Look at this stretch:

    Herol Graham UD12
Iran Barkley UD15 (Won WBA 160)
Mike McCallum UD12 (Defended WBA 160)
Robbie Sims UD12 (Defended WBA 160)
Doug Dewitt TKO7 (Defended WBA 160)

Those are 5 quality, quality fighters, and Kalambay dominated them all.

The stretch would end with a KO1 loss to Michael Nunn in trying to unify his WBA belt with Nunn's IBF (Kalambay was stripped though before the fight)...and he was ruined by that fight.

The question: Let's say he steers clear of Nunn. What do you think he would've done at 160 or how far he would've gone up the weight ladder?

His career has always been a mystery to me.

Kalambay vs Toney would have been fantastic, and Kalambay had every chance of winning that fight, trust me. He was one of the best Middleweights of the last 20 years. Great defensive fighter.

I agree. I always wondered how that fight would've gone down. Everyone forgets Nunn was dominating Toney until the end of the fight when he was hurt. Reminded me of Arce-Carbajal.

Nunn wasn't really dominating, but he was ahead on my card by about 2-3 rounds. Toney wasn't expected to do anything in that fight, it was definitely his coming out party. Kalambay, his wons over Graham and McCullum shouldn't be underestimated. Both fighters were in their prime, and undefeated. Kalambay in today's middleweight division would dominate with ease, and establish himself as a standout talent.

I truly feel Kalambay could have edged out Hopkins...he is a very hard style for anyone to deal with..One of the best technicians to ever lace them up at that weight.
