I really enjoyed both fights, but rarely see either mentioned. Were these good fights? Was it a likeable factor? I know Tarver got booed quite a bit and never understood it. Even in his/RJJ home state when they fought. And Glen the quiet, non bragging workhorse. Does the lack of appreciation mean they were two underrated fighters? Or am I trippin' and think these were two good fights and neither is deserving of being mentioned among the great rematches?
I was fortunate enough to have an undeserved seat in press section. Everyone there thought Tarver won. He did what he was supposed to do in the rematch. Both were pretty good fights.
Glen Johnson is a likeable guy but he was very very fortunate to fight RJJ in the state he was in. Say all you want about RJJs chin,we don't know how good or bad it was at his peak, but the fact is that his legs were so weak(probably hadn't recovered from the Tarver KO loss) that he was stuck against the ropes and lost all 8 rounds previous to getting KOd by johnson shows very clearly that he was damaged goods. I likelGlen Johnson as a guy way more but.....Tarvers KO of RJJ was a more legitimate win, RJJ won the first round and looked better and more mobile in the rematch than the first fight, which he won despite taking a beating. Tarver just caught him,I don't believe in lucky shots but Tarver DID have his eyes closed when he threw that punch. RJJ looked like **** for every round of the Johnson fight before Johnson KOd him
