I watched Williams v Margarito last night, and I was more impressed with Williams watching it the second time around ... He moved well, he showed good defense (he ducked, slipped, and blocked alot of Margarito's punches) agility, speed, and endurance. I thought that he took the majority of the rounds ... Williams never backed up, he just circled and pivoted ... he tied Margarito up on the inside and made sure that he stayed active. Margarito had his moments but he didn't do enough in the close rounds to have a won the round(s) convincingly. I thought Williams won 9-3 or if you can be generous 8-4 but this fight wasn't close at all. Thought??
I WAS THERE. Margo fought a brave fight, as he always does. And after having watched it again, there is no way Paul loses ANY of rounds 1-7. Some of the rounds 8-11 were close. And the "deciding" round 12 was the most lopsided of all. This victory was neither razor-thin nor controversial, except in the minds of Margo's most loyal fans. Margorito's excuse of starting slow irritates me. His fans (which obviously include HBO and Showtime) don't want to look at the fact that he was eating leather at a rate of 40 Beats / Minute. That's why he started slow. But the worse part about it is how they assume as fact that he will start faster and beat Williams in a rematch, and that he shouldn't have to prove it. -Just because he said so.
I expect Margarito to take Williams to deep waters this time and really test his will. I just know this fight is gonna be huge
fitz -- is there website your watching it from? Did you already have it recorded? There aren't even vide highlights of this fight anywhere on the internet. If you have it upload or share a link :happy :good
Williams fought the fight of his life. Can he dulicate it, Prob, Prob not. We all know Margarito will be there full throtle like everyother fight... (Which Williams will show up tho?) He has the tool's, but then again so does a Mechanic with no arms.
I have the fight recorded but i'm sure I can find it on the net and once I do i'll make sure to send you a link.
I think that HBO is trying to ride this new wave of Antonio Margarito for as long as they could. I was wondering why HBO made no mention of a rematch between Margarito and Williams (even in the interview last night) ... I'm wondering if they know that Margarito can't beat Williams and is looking to have that loss far behind them.
I disagree.. Maybe cause HBO know's the behind the scenes politic's (maybe they are involved?) Why hype the boxing circles about a match that prob cannot be made right now. (because of bitter old **** promoter's who never even laced them up before) I can almost gurantee that both Williams and Margarito do not fear eachother, so kill that bull****.
Careful, now. You'll be accused of being a Margarito-hater for stating the obvious. Every boxing fan, other than the most ridiculous Margo fans, and even some of them who are honest, know that this is the fight that makes the most sense. For them to not have even MENTIONED IT is utterly ridiculous. Margo would rather this fight fade in everyone's memory so he can later mischaracterize it as controversial or insignificant.
Williams showed too much skill for Margarito ... he showed too much speed and movement ... hell he fought so smart for his first title fight.
Margarito last night called out DLH ... and said that Mayweather never would fight him. Then Max Kellerman said that PBF's legacy depended on a fight w/ Margarito even though he said that PBF fought everyone from 130-135 ... and his welterweight resume is weak and he needs to come back and fight Margarito to secure his legacy. I thought that was ridiculous to say, when before Kellerman said that Mayweather didn't have to fight anyone because he was the champion of the division. I think thats a ploy to pull Mayweather out of retirement so that a fight between he and Margarito can be made. But the big picture is two fighters in Paul Williams and Joshua Clottey who pose big problems for "Toney"
Kellermen gets a notch for that in my book. Its basically what every boxing fan is thinking, Floyd is still in his prime and thier are alot of explosive fights out there, and he certainly didn't secure a legacy at welter. I wouldn't blame floyd if he stayed retired, but it would be beyond awesome if he unretired to fight some of these skilled fighters. It's rare that you see an announcer speak for the fans.
I don't know if thats the point that Kellerman was trying to make - even though as a boxing fan I agree with what you just wrote.
2 judges had it 7-5 for Williams, and 1 judge had it 8-4. Not 1 judge had Williams winning 9 rounds to 3.
