Awful performance.....call the shyt like it is. And thats not discrediting Pac or trying to hate on anyone....but call the spade a spade man, it was an awful performance.
Definitely...Clottey couldn't trade with Pacquiao, every time he tried to string some combos together...Pacquiao would overwhelm him with his speed and volume punching.
It wasn't nearly as competitive as I would have liked, but after rewatching it...it wasn't actually that bad.
There were plenty of occasions where Pac would stand idle with his hands loosely held up, and deliberately allow Clottey some success in landing a few uppercuts, straight rights etc. This was all in an attempt to encourage Clottey to open up and exchange more. It did work a little bit. But Clottey immediately went back to his shell when he realized Pac would tag him him everytime he opened up.
i mean its your opinion i respect it....not saying mine is anymore important than yours...but for me....Clottey CAN DO A LOT MORE AND A LOT BETTER.....it appeared as if he wasnt even trying to upset the #1 P4P fighter.....this is where you go all out...you should not be satisfied with not getting KO'd which i think thats what he was doing....ontop of that he didnt even seem to be remotely upset about his performace or losing. As a competitor this should have some sort of affect on you and he seemed alllll to willing to accept his performace, not getting KO'd, and losing.....it was just awful...to me. Like Cotto im sure he realized he was going to get hit alot....but i saw Cotto getting into wild exchanges, using hsi jab at first, he was trying is what im saying...regardless if it didnt work....he came to fight. Clottey never gave himself a chance.
Yeah I agree, he didn't give 100%...like you said, your in with the P4P #1...you go all out. I think he knew Pacquiao was quick, but like someone has already said, once he got in the ring with him...he probably didn't expect him to be that quick. If you look in the first round, Clottey looked very comfortable...seemed to be letting his punches go (to an extent), but once he seen the combinations, he went into a shell and waited for those 20-30 seconds I pointed out. He almost looked disorientated at times when he was covering up and Pacquiao was unleashing 20-30 punches without reply.
Absolutely classic. Clottey did not come to fight. He came to collect a paycheck and ripped off everyone in the process... including Manny Pacquiao. Joshua Clottey is a disgrace to boxing. Other than Tito Ortiz(against Chuck Liddell 1), this is the one time I am hoping that a fighter gets "knock the **** out."
This is exactly how I felt about floyd vs shane after round 3.... But clottey was in there with a little machine, he had never fought a guy like pacquiao before. He did beat Judah, but that wasn't a prime Judah.
Clottey probably had Pacquiao by 15 pounds come fight night. And not a Cotto or Corey Spinks 15 pounds. This guy is pure muscle. Probalby benches over 300 pounds. To not try and muscle his way inside and bang with Pacquiao on the ropes is uncalled for. I now that Hagler fought at 160, but he and Clottey have similar builds and styles. Could anyone see Hagler letting a smaller guy push him around and abuse him like Pacquiao did to Clottey? Most fighters fight to knock someone out or get knocked out trying. Clottey is obvioulsy not this kind of fighter.
Because he was paid off by Arum!!! This is how the real Clottey fights. Watch him plant and throw good hard punches exchanging with Cotto. He let his hands go forreal! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OXv3QUGEAI[/ame]
Yup.......Josh was not only frustrating for us to watch, but it was even more frustrating to Manny. Manny gets frustrated when his opponents stop fighting back. i.e. DLH, Cotto & Josh. He dealt with his frustration in the ring in different ways. From showing reservations in going to the kill with DLH, to completely coming to a stand still with Cotto who was extremely "elusive" in the later part of their fight, to josh and his "double punch". Manny has one thing he normally does with all his opponents. He typically allows them to rally off some offense which is dumb....but that's manny's style and it speaks to the level of his confidence. He definitley allows himself to get hit in most of his fights especially when his opponents seem to have given up....Like Manny is kind of giving them a second chance to get back in it. He better not try that **** with Floyd.....if Floyd actually takes the fight this time.
