The first time I watched it I didn't see a point for a rematch, but watching it over again...I think Cotto would win. If he was just in a little better shape, threw some hard body shots at marg (slowed him down a little bit), fight on the inside since it's to his height advantage (get out/ move around when necessary) I don't see why he couldn't beat marg by UD. He went to the 11th, and the fight was nearly a draw at the time. I think if he'd come back, feed off this loss to get better/ train harder, and the fact he already knows what to expect...I honestly think he wins a rematch if he were able to do that.
Yup...If cotto was physically and mentally prepared for a 12 ROUND MATCH, I think he would win this fight. Cotto started fading after 6 rounds...If he didnt brawl as much early (saving energy), and in conditioning focused more on endurance, I think he would win this fight.
Cotto loses the rematch. He'll never be mobile enough and durable enough to beat Margarito. Never. Again, anyone who wants to highlight the early rounds where Cotto was winning need to watch more Margarito fights. Every Margarito opponent seems to dominate early. If Cotto's ability to take punishment improves because he got a beating in this fight, sure, he'll win the rematch. :rofl
Cotto woud lose the rematch as well. I don't know what fight people saw. The only round that really went Cotto's way was round 1. I gave him rounds 3,4 and 5 as well. However, he took a good amount of punishment in those rounds. From round 2 on, Cotto was on his bicylce. He was in survival mode for most of the second half of the fight. Cotto is not a runner. However, that's the style he needs to implore to beat Margo. Unfortunately, he can't do it well enough. He defense isn't good enough, he isn't quick enough either. Margo was able to trap him with relative ease, and Cotto ate more and more hard shots as the fight wore on. Unless Cotto learns to defend against the uppercut, he should stay away from Margo.
cotto fought as well as he could and still didn't win. he counterpunched and moved extremely well. maybe if he incorporated wlad's octopus style, he could win on pts. it's sad but true. box and counterpunch from the outside, then tie up anytime margarito gets close instead of wasting energy by running....yep :yep
I didn't even think Cotto was dominating the early rounds. He won 4 of the first 5 rounds, but he was eating some good shots in rounds 3,4, and 5.
If Cotto comes in with a better gameplan and stays off the ropes and outboxes him in the center of the ring, then Cotto wins by a wide UD.
Cotto's gameplan wasn't the problem. It's easy to say that he should stay off the ropes and outbox Margo in the center of the ring. However, it's hard to do that when your opponent isn't phased by your punches, and is bigger and stronger than you. Cotto simply does not have the ability to keep Margo off of him. I thought Cotto's power woud be enough to slow down Margo's attack. However, that's not the case.
Margarito was definately doing far more damage in those early rounds. That single body shot he landed in round 2 seemed more effective than all Cotto's head shots combined.
He was running alot at the end. He was running. And no, thats not his game, thats why I cant say he's a complete boxer
