This fight was actually the first big-time boxing event i ever saw live (i live in holland we don't have any big-time fights), and was worth the trip and every penny! I was rooting for Shane although i've always liked Cotto too. Anyway at the time i had it 116-113 for Cotto, but seeing it on dvd later i decided it ought to be closer, 1 or 2 points at the most. Always felt though that Shane went in there too much to prove a point about how tough and strong he was, his pre-fight comments also reflected this. Maybe if he'd been a little more reserved and smart about his boxing he would have won, but then again, Cotto was really on point that night, he might have adapted anyway.
Great fight, no breaks and huge sledge-hammerin and crisp hookin, stiff jabbin and accurate shootin. Shane did lost the fight as they were switching and winning rounds in between when he backed off for the first time after 5 and 1/2 rounds and boxed in circles. Shane thought he could overpower Cotto and didn't... It was too little too late to take advantage of Cotto's decrease in action down the stretch. Bad game plan from Mosley, still nothing to be ashamed of, incredible similar statistics after 12, specially on power-punching concern, clearly a case of Shane's overhand right bomb against Cotto's monstruos left hook.
