Morales/Pac 1 was a better fight if only because of the climactic 12th round. Which was the greatest round of their trilogy, and probably my favorite round in Erik Morales career. I get bored with armpunches. Kinda hyperbole on my part, but I do. 2006 was a weak year to me. I take back Morales/Pacquiao as my foty 2006 and give it to Vasquez/Gonzalez. That had all I want. Sweet technique and boxing by Gonzalez clashing with Vasquez's champion heart and determination.
Agreed. The Gatti/Ward fights are reasonably exciting but for me its hard to see past the fact that they were both very limited fighters. For me blood and guts fights between the more capable fighters you mentioned are more better because a) they're just as brutal and b) their skill level is greater.
.............Yes, I've seen better. That shouldn't take away from what was a superb effort from both Gatti and Ward, but I've seen better. I've posted this here a few times, but this is, and will almost surely always be, the best fight I've ever seen........ [YT]9fHl3FLPrUE[/YT]
That fight has a permanent place on my hard drive. I could very easily name 10 fights I'd place over Gatti/Ward I in my heart.
Gatti-Ward I was great. The trilogy as a whole is overrated though, as it was pretty one-sided. The 2nd fight was alright and the 3rd was good, but both one-sided bouts. The 2nd fight was arguably 10-0 and the 3rd fight was 8-2, with Ward only winning rounds when Gatti broke his hand, and a late KD after losing the first 2:55 of the round. Agreed. Gatti-Robinson I was probably better than Gatti-Ward I. And Gatti-Ward 3 wouldn't make my top 5 list of Gatti fights, or Ward fights.
They were able to take that much punishment because they both don't hit harder. If either of them got a 1 KO punch power, that fight would have ended sooner and would not necessitate a trilogy.
awesome fights i love em,i must have seen them 20 times each, how any boxing fan doesnt like or respect those fights is beyond me.
