I don't like it when we agree. It makes me think I must be as stupid as you.

Fab, are you trying to insinuate that if it weren't for the cut that Jones might have won the fight?

I can see a few things wrong with that theory.

Jones was beyond shot and has been shot since 2003, watch some of his fights before that to get an idea of how Jones moved, was far more active and was extremely hard to catch.

He isn't insinuating it, he said it a page or so back. I have been trying to point out the few things wrong with that theory for several pages now.

ok i will give u that. But the fight was very close. The way it ended gave a diff perception of how Roy was doing be4 the cut. So even if you give Calzaghe the 3rd. going intot he 7th it was very competitive

Scar I kno RJ is shot by his standards of greatness. But compared to other fighters he isnt. Im not discrediting Calzaghes win in no way shape or form, he got the W fair n square. But I honestly think the cut was the momentum change in the fight. Rounds 1-6 were very competitive. 7 is when the tide turned

He was shot compared to Tarver and Johnson four years ago. He was shot compared to Andre Dirrell now when you consider Jones outpointed Hanshaw and then Dirrell KO'd him in 5 in Hanshaw's next fight. He was shot compared to Winky Wright when you consider Wright utterly dominated a far better version of Trinidad that Jones beat less convincingly. You are kidding yourself that Jones isn't shot to **** by any standards now. Would Jones of '02 lost to Calzaghe? How much closer did Hopkins make it with Calzaghe than Jones did this year? Jones is shot, has been for years. End of story.

You say close.....but other than the jab-right hand that dropped Calzaghe, Jones Jr never put a combination together for the rest of the night

Single shots rarely win you rounds and fights against Calzaghe on the judges scorecards, that just seems like the way matches are scored now

I still think he retained an strong element of his power and seemed confident in the early rounds

But of course he was shot....

The Jones of '02 versus which version of Calzaghe???

2004-2006 were Calzaghes peak years in terms of he could still punch hard even though he cuffed/slapped still

Even against Kessler he looked and seemed different

2002 I would say Jones UD

After that Calzaghe would always have a good chance of winning

well see thats a whole other issue. as far as scoring. Thats gonna take this thread to a whole other place. But being completely subjective dependin on how you score. The fight couldve went either way for both guys. If you favor WORkrate alone, then clearly calzaghe won every round on your card. If you favor cleaner shots, then RJ would win every round on your card. If ur in the middle, the fight was very close

    Ludicrous.

    1. The cut happened and that's as a result of Calzaghe finding the opening to land that punch. Speculating what 'could've' happened in such an instance is ludicrous. Should we start speculating that Calzaghe might have had a shut out but for a stray forearm as well?

    2. Calzaghe was already ahead in most people's eyes...the judges certainly and as you already said, was toying with Jones from round 3 onwards pretty much.

Oh and btw, DINAMITA, I provided an answer to your 'honest question for Calzaghe fans thread'!

Jones was actually shwbaoting and sticking his tongue out to the crowd or commentators from rounds 1-3

The fact that this all stopped after that from Roy tells you a lot in terms of fight pattern/dominance

Obviously from Tarver I in '04 onwards Calzaghe would have won as Jones was shot after the burn back down to lhw. 1997-2003, Jones embarrasses Calzaghe.

Okay... when you wrote "I honestly thought he won rounds 1-5" in the original post it doesnt give that impression.
