I gave Roy rounds 1, 2 and 5.... I had it very close going into the 7th but thought it was all Calzaghe from there.....

Roy was shot in my opinion from the way Calzaghe could put his hands down and Roy would just stand there. James Toney tried that on a prime Roy for half a second and at a much further distance than he was from Joe. What happened? Roy launched from a distance and made him pay. Roy is a shell of his former greatness, still has quick hands, but does not have the instinct it would have taken to give Joe Calzaghe his first L.

Jones is a shot fighter...understood...shot...and Joe C. would ahve dance circles around RJJ both on their primes...

I agree with that, no1 way am i disputin Calzaghes win. After the cut he took over IMO. But be4 it I think RJ was still very game and very much in it was my point

jones definitely looked pretty good early although he shouldn't have covered up so much. funny how calzaghe was showboating early but most of his punches were being deflected or at least partially deflected, but he'd pose after his fluries where nearly all did nothing, funny stuff. i think jones spent too much time the past 4 years fighting too weak a competition such that he wasn't mentally ready for this fight. but yes jones looked alright but after the cut he didn't have the physical and mental stamina to battle through.

edit: after rewatching the first 8 rounds, i definitely had jones ahead. a couple of things from re watching it are a) how biased sentana announcers were (at least the play by play guy) and b) people here had said how they thought jones couldn't catch calzaghe when he was sticking his head out, but jones was able to catch him a fair amount of times up through round 8 and calzaghe was really only sticking his head out when jones was covering up. also, calzaghe couldn't catch jones at all when jones was posed defensively and most of calzaghe's "work" was when jones was covering and calzaghe would get some shots to the body in (clean) and some glancing blows to the head (mostly although some shots got in).

i agree from rewatching that jones still has a fair amount left (yes he ain't 29 anymore) and could still be a factor

I saw the fight the night it happened live, then once more on the replay a week later. Both times I felt Jones was shot. He just isn't what he was, he doesn't take shots well anymore, and did you see Calzaghe sticking his chin out...? Jones decapitates him if he still had a fraction of his former ring prowess.

Jones is shot, I can't find a way around that conclusion.

Calzaghe dominated that fight. He put his head in Roy jones chest and there was nothing RJ could do about that

that was when roy was all covered up. he caught calzaghe more than a few times when they were in the center of the ring and at a distance and certainly more than calzaghe was able to catch him. the real problem was imo was that roy wanted to cover up so much. roy more than held his own through the first 7 or so rounds and it was no domination to that point at least. if roy is nothing at this point than calzaghe ain't much more. roy aint' what he was but he still showed speed and good reflexes for a good deal of the fight.
