Rewatched Pavlik Taylor. Damn Kelly could bang. Would destroy today's Middleweights.

Pavlik was a warrior. He could take it and keep coming. The Miranda fight was great as were others. Wish him all the best.

Ya, after seeing Golovkin get tamed by (Im assuming) Jacobs size and power.... have to admit my thoughts on how a Pavlik Golovkin fight would go has been shifted towards Pavlik by UD or late KO.

Him vs the rest of the division is fairly easy to call...

Would have been a red hot fight with prime pavlik! Kelly ice'd smallish middleweight like GGG but he was somewhat unrefined and until proven otherwise i consider GGG to be a masterful boxing mind who knows how to play to his strengths.

I wish we could have seen prime versions of pavlik , Martinez and GGG square off...

Golovkin hits harder than Taylor, and is actually a better boxer than Taylor and Miranda were. I'd pay to see a Prime Pavlik vs Golovkin fight though.

Prime for prime I think GGG takes it, but prime Pavlik would have won against the version who fought Jacobs.

Not sure about that. It would be a hell of a fight though. People are acting like Golovkin fell off. Jacobs is actually good. He'd beat both Taylor and Pavlik in my opinion.

GGG would chop him down with ease. Pavlik is to slow and lacks any real skills. He throws his punches like they are held back with rubber bands. Hopkins made a fool of him and Hopkins is no ggg.

G has more power and is better than both Jermain and Miranda. But Jacobs size and power kept G in first gear all night, and hes not beating Pavlik in that gear. Pavlik is just as big, more rangy, and more powerful than Jacobs.... and will be much more active than Jacobs was. Golovkin has all the tools to win this fight, but hes not winning it in first gear. Kelly has shown hes willing to walk through the fire to take wins, hard for me to not favor him here after seeing the Jacobs performance from G.

I don't think Golovkin would have respected Pavlik like he respected Jacobs. Pavlik was an inch or so taller than Jacobs, and probably had longer reach, but Pavlik was not an athletic fighter. He didn't hit as hard as Jacobs does. He was a come forward, wear you down, grind you down type plodder, who could punch a bit. I don't think he hit hard enough, and I don't think his chin was sturdy enough to handle Golovkin. I could see a later round stoppage. I didn't think Pavlik won the rematch with Taylor, and if you look at Pavlik's resume, he fought a hell of a lot of cans and fringe contender types. Taylor being his notable significant win in 42 bouts. Golovkin's resume in 37 fights, is noticeably better than Pavlik's resume is.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Jacobs has done absolutely nothing to show hes got Pavliks power. And bringing up Pavs chin, a guy who soaked up bombs from the likes of miranda taylor martinez ect, as a liability when Jacobs who has a worse chin then him just went the distance with G. And I do think he won the rematch.

Pav has proven better power, imo
Pavs got proven better chin, imo
    Pavs bigger
    Pav throws more

Really the only thing Jacobs has on Pav is hes marginally more athletic (i think his athleticism is overrated) and hes faster (ties into athleticism)

But jacobs is no speedster and hes not some athletic phenom. And it wasn't those traits that kept G tamed. It was Jacobs power and size. Both which Pav has more of (imo)

So we just disagree completely on this. Its all good. Would have been one hell of a fun fight either way.

Jacobs ko-strake and records is an obvious start for searching evidense.. nobody can say exactly who is more powerful but come on man! Jacobs has power, has technical ability to box; we would be a serious test for any middleweight, including pavlik. IMO Jacobs would win against Taylor and Pavlik wpuld be 50/50 fight.

    Nah.

Jacobs vs a prime Taylor is 55/45 for JT
    Pavlik KOs Jacobs imo.

Really, I like DJ a lot and his performance against G was superb but the guy is overrated despite the close fight with G.

Taylor beating Hopkins, and having close fights with Winky and Pavlik at middleweight is better than anything Jacobs has done.

    Certainly did.
There was a few times that Pavlik walked through some big punches and carried on

Not at all. I asked why you keep bringing Froch up to me for no reason? I dont agree/disagree with you too much about what you said about Frochs chin.
But Hopkins did get dropped by Echols.
Sucker punches happen. There was punches between Holyfield and Tyson that were at the end of the bell in their first fight of the first round and neither went down. Hopkins got dropped by Echols but that doesnt mean Hopkins has a bad chin because he didnt. The point is it can happen. The same Echols you note as a big puncher couldnt stop Mundine who Ottke KOd and who wasnt noted at all as a puncher. You cant answer that and have gone round a long way to know that I am correct and accept that these things happen in boxing.
You can now go on and bring up Froch again for some unknown reason whilst we are on a thread about Pavlik.

Regarding power, Looking at Pavlik's resume, I don't see anyone that Jacobs wouldn't have KO'd also, and quicker. I wasn't saying Pavlik didn't have power, I was saying that Jacobs had more one punch power. Pavlik had a higher work rate and would overwhelm guys.

    I'll give you chin.

Yeah, would have been a good fight either way. Pavlik is still only 35. It's a shame he let his vices get the best of him.
