Upon rewatching this fight I have to give AJ more credit. There was no way he could of outboxed Usyk, but I felt he had good moments with head movement and feints that would give a lot of other heavyweights fits. Makes me all the more intrigued what would happen if he stepped into the ring with Wilder...
I have the opposite take. Rewatching that fight recently, Joshua got dominated even worse than i remember and i had it 9-3 live. He had 0 success except when he went to the body in the middle rounds. But theres no shame in losing to Usyk. He's an excellent fighter. There is shame in quitting against Ruiz however. Absolutely embarrassing
This literally makes no sense...I mean you say you scored it 9-3 which is how I scored it myself. then say he had no success only in the middle rounds. yet somehow it was far more dominent? Also he got caught by pudding and was on bambi legs and dropped yet he clowned him in the rematch. yet Wilder and Fury fanboys always need to take that dump on AJ and it's pretty transparent why.
I had it 9-3 on first sight. But on rewatch he only won 2 rounds. He had success in the middle rounds but he only won 2 of them, which are the rounds i refer to when he had a little bit of success hurting Usyk downstairs. Besides that Usyk outlanded and outboxed him even more dominant fasion than memory serves. It was not really competitive. How do you not understand ?
I also have to beg to differ with you on that one. Usyk made Joshua look horrible in that fight. Josh was trying to dance with Usyk, but looked ridiculous. It was sad to see it happened in front of his own people. He should've never agreed to fight Usyk in the first place. Instead he should've fought the likes of Kownacki, Ajagba, Helenius etc.
I wouldn't say that. Usyk got the opportunity and we should be grateful. It was a good decision for Joshua to take on his mandatory Usyk is an example of a living fossil. A blast from the past. A 6'3, 210-220lb elite heavyweight who ducks no one. We need more of him. I'm hoping Frank Sanchez (a similar sized fighter) has the goods too
I think it's the hyperbole you use. Also I'm not disagreeing with you but Usyk was marked up after the fight. So although Joshua wasn't sitting down on his punches they were making contact and marking up so it clearly wasn't just body work. Also let me explain hyperbole you imply far more dominant yet only one round difference. Now do you understand?
In the first three rounds he did enough moving and feinting to make it more difficult for Usyk, and in the mid rounds landed some nice shots too. Usyk looked pretty marked up afterwards. Obviously Usyk won decisively, I think he could have won by KO if he risked it, but I wouldn't call it an absolute domination.
Joshua naively or arrogantly thought he could outbox Usyk. I don't know what was going on in his head or mcckrakens head, but they got their tactics completely wrong. I think Joshua will likely get beat again, but it's clear no one in the HW division right now can outbox or outstrategise Usyk, so the only way to beat him is to hurt him and do something he doesn't expect. It's basically like beating Wladmir K in his prime. He cannot outthink him or outbox him, so you'll have to do something unorthodox or spontaneous and hurt him physically.
I wouldn't say he clowned Ruiz Jr in the rematch. He boxed smarter, avoiding any engagement and racked up the rounds. Decisive win, but to clown someone you have to make them look a bit silly. Ruiz Jr just looked obese.
Agreed. He'd probably beat everyone besides Fury or Usyk, but still though. It is insane how Joshua thought fighting this way would lead him to victory.
