He said his hands were fine during the fight - but he hadn't been able to spar for the fight + he had had the flu for a few days (this was actually documented on Palles webpage). They were afraid JC would pull out of the fight if they revealed it (check out how Kessler ducks the issue on the pre fight interview on the Setanta DVD - its hiliarious)
    - I mean, they were getting 5 mil$ for the fight and Palle badly needed the cash.

And don't start comparing this to JC's hand injury vs Lacy - you can face Lacy without sparring, but Calzaghe.. No way.

Yeah, listening to the Danish commentary it sounded like Kessler was getting battered pillar to post. Then I bought the Setanta DVD - it was much more balanced. Sure Cal touched kessler a lot, but the big, clean shots from Kessler counted for more and the fact that two judges gave Kessler rd 5 or 7 (I'm not quite sure which) prove this.

If judges didn't mind giving even rounds it would be like

    MK 3, JC 5, 4 even (1, 5, 7, 10).

    Crap!
Calzaghe ****ed his left up years ago and can barely punch with it.
Kessler lost because of inherent weaknesses in his style. Get over it.:D

    116-112

    1. Kessler
    2. Kessler
    3. Calzaghe
    4. Kessler
    5-11. Calzaghe
    12. Kessler

There you have it in a nutshell.

Don't use the hands - if his hands were bad he wouldn't have been able to shake Joe up a couple of times, unless Joe imported a glass jaw from somewhere then got rid of it immediately.

Calzaghe-Kessler was one of the best techical fights/boxing matches in the last few years... so many ways Kessler tried to figure Calzaghe out, so many way Joe answered. Kessler had early success but never was able to take over, instead his key weapons was taken away. Quite interestingly, his best round was the last, when he didn't try to outsmart Joe but went at him like a beast, do or die. What a warrior!

The fight wasn't close. I had it 117-111, but 116-112 is a fair score as well... it WAS more 2-sided than my scorecard shows, but by a round by round scoring, the result is not that close.

I rewatched the fight last night aswel. Great match.

Calzaghe clearly won. If Joe was younger id def be up for a rematch, but he isnt younger...

Joe would have to be faded somewhat for Kessler to beat him.

He is just the better fighter, more versatile and would beat Mikkel 10 times out of 10 when at his best. Granted all 10 fights would be highly competitive.

I dont think Kessler will get much better then he is now but Joe will probably get worse before he does. His only hope is for Joe to be well and truly on the way out.

Kessler is far more dangerous than anything the Americans can offer right now

I also think Kessler would beat him in a rematch.

Most people gave Calzaghe rd 1 and kessler rd 7, though some gave him rd 5. Yahoo sports gave Kessler 1 5 and 7 but Calzaghe 12 (what were they watching?)! Ritchie Woodhall on Setanta had rd 10 even. The fact that no-one seems to agree on WHICH rounds to give Kessler proves it was close.

I re-watched it two weeks ago and scored it 115-113 Calzaghe.
