So I am rewatching Canelo vs Mayweather. So far I'm up to the end of round 7.

Here are my thoughts for the first half of the fight and round 7.

The first 6 rounds were very close and hard to score. The first 3 rounds I think are too close to call. I'd probably score those 10-10.

In rounds 4-6 there were a number of fouls. Floyd hit Canelo twice in the back, one time during a clinch, after which Canelo proceeded to give him a shoulder bump. In the 4th Floyd had his glove in Canelo's face during a clinch, which annoyed Canelo and Canelo hit him in the upper leg. (low but not near the balls) Later on, Floyd also had a low blow himself and the ref warned Floyd to keep em up.

The 4th round I thought Canelo actually won the round. He landed imho the better punches. At the time I didn't really think this was one of Canelo's best rounds, but after watching the replay I thought he deserved to win it. Floyd probably won 5 and 6, although those were very very close rounds. Round 7 Floyd landed what I think was his best punch of the fight, which was a uppercut through the guard that landed perfectly.

Floyd won round 7 hands down due to that being the best punch of the round. I think out of the whole fight, round 7 was the only clearcut round. I still gotta get to rounds 8-12, but through 7 I think Floyd won about 2 or 3 rounds, Canelo won 1, and 3 or 4 were even. (something like that)

Dude, really?? Are you making a conscious effort to find reasons not to give Mayweather these rounds??

No. I gave Mayweather credit for Round 7. Didn't you read. I even am considering giving him rounds 5 and 6 which were close.

You keep swimming deeper and deeper out from shore. :-(

Next week you'll be posting a thread about watching it a dozenth time and scoring it a shutout for Canelo.

Why are you being such an A-hole. Dude I'm seriously re-watching the fight and trying to be honest about it. What's wrong with you?

It's not a SHUTOUT by either guy. It was a close! Did you even watch this fight?

You'v gotta understand that judges very rarely give a 10-1, never mind 3 in a row lol. floyd won the fight, who cares realy what the scores were.

Canelo won three rounds. But no more. Even four is very generous.

True, they rarely give 10-10 rounds. But after 3 rounds it was 29-28, 29-28, and 28-29 on the official judges cards, so the judges agreed those first 3 rounds could have went either way.

Yes, and just the once, live in good quality, which is plenty. You keep talking about these "close" rounds that simply didn't exist. That's why you keep taking stick.

Just because Canelo wasn't getting beaten to a pulp doesn't mean he was making rounds close. You can have a shutout that doesn't resemble Calzaghe vs. Lacy or anything, if one party is finessing every single frame and consistently doing just enough to outclass the opponent.

At the time I scored three for Canelo. I can't quite remember, but I believe round 2,4, and round 11 or 12?

I'll have to watch the fight again though. There were defiantly some close rounds, but Floyd won his rounds more dominantly. Canelo didn't dominate any rounds and that is the issue here. The Canelo rounds are up for debate. Mayweather won 7-8 rounds in dominant fashion. It's not disputable there is a draw here IMO.

You have to be seriously pushing it by giving Canelo 4 rounds. The rounds he won were evenly matched, not clear cut. It was a clear victory for Mayweather.

Okay, I watched it "just the once" also until today and now I am doing my due diligence and re-watching the fight to give it a second look. I suggest you do the same. (not to prove anything just for fun, I like going through fights a second time to get a better look, and I can rewind and stuff)

The rounds were close, but I agree that you could theoretically have a shutout that's close, but watching it again like I noticed what Canelo did in round 4. This wasn't a shutout though. Mayweather at times was off balance and Canelo was landing too. I'm not taking anything away from Mayweather. Like I said round 7 Mayweather was truly awesome. That upper was wicked. Despite what you think I'm not a Mayweather hater. I'm trying to be fair to both guys.

I agree Canelo didn't dominate any rounds. I don't think Floyd really dominated any round either, EXCEPT for round 7 which was a clear Mayweather round. (which I said from the beginning) I'm not sure Canelo won more than a few round, but Mayweather didn't win 7-8 rounds in dominant fashion. That's just untrue. You could legitimiately argue at least half the rounds were 10-10, where both guys are throwing and landing.

most floyd rounds are close. he rarely does more than he has to to win. the press corps all had it 120-108- ridiculous and ignorant scoring. Canelo won 4 rounds. never came close to getting wiped out, and landing the heavier leather -yes body shots DO count-the last few rounds.
