Between rd. 1 and 2: (Showtime delayed broadcast)

    Golota: "Stop the fight!"
    Al Certo: "What????"
    Golota: "Stop the fight!"
Al Certo: "Dooooont you dare Andrew!! Dooooon't you dare!! You're gonna win this fight, you got something in...."
    Golota: (mumbles something)
Al Certo: "What the **** Andrew, you...you....you....(he's speechless)"

This is something new for me, I always thought Golota snapped and decided to quit after the allegedly headbutt in the 2nd round but now it looks like he was already metally f--ked up after the 1st round.

I remember this fight vividly...he broke his orbitol bone badly and knew there was something seriously wrong with his face. This is why he didn't want to continue. It wasn't him that freaked out, it was his corner.

Oliver McCall almost beat me down after this fight.
This was at the Palace of Auburn Hills. I saw McCall after the fight, just mulling around outside....wearing a hawaiin shirt.
I went up to him, thanked him for all of the great fights (to which he was gracious) then asked him when he was going to go after a belt again.... to which he flipped out on me.
At the time I was 5'8...160lbs.
He was marching me down - chest to chest. Saying he has nothing to prove to me or anyone. Poking his finger in my chest. I was scared SH-- less!!

exactly, unfortunatly most of the audience didnt realize this

to bad this made many people lost hope in Andrew

and make him lost few years while he still could beat anyone

Wait a second, man. Let me get this straight. You're some ordinary fan, you go up to McCall and just start chatting him up about when he's gonna fight next and such, and he goes all mental on you??:nut

Jeez, this guy's more nutso than even his rep would lead people to believe!

i'm tired of golota getting flak for that, if he continued, the orbital bone could have pierced his brain, he was smart for wanting to end the fight, sometimes it takes more balls to not do what everyone wants you to do, those who don't do, don't know

Damn! I'd have pissed myself. Maybe it's best not to ask fighters questions, especially ones with a track record like McCall!

The story eventually was that Golota suffered a broken cheekbone in the 1st and that's why he wanted to and did quit. Sometimes only fighters know there's really something wrong, and respect to Andrew for quitting regardless of what his trainers and a whole arena full of fans say (or throw).

    LOL.

    I don't know about it.
My friend and I made up about .0001% of the white folk that were still standing around outside after the fight. Might have looked pretty bad.
The whole time I was standing there I was thinking I was dead.
Again, this was all in 2000. Who knows, maybe he's a world away from where he was.
