Highlights can be decieving... He was acting stupid and looked out of place. And in the 12th, Roy wanted to fight and Joe was just prancing about and making annoying jesters like an idiot and no body was even cheering that much anymore because he was overdoing it. Even Lampley noticed and said just fight joe or somthing like that.

i always hated the way roy would showboat in an effort to demean his opponents and hoped one day a fighter would embarrass him the same way. unfortunately joe has little charisma and very little flavor so his taunting came off as stale.
i like joe as a fighter a lot more than hammed but i think prince was a much better showboater.
i dont get into the whole euro vs america hair pulling matches because it seems to attract the lowest common denominator and anything worth reading usually comes wrapped in a bunch of nonsence. i do believe that joe sucks at showboating and should stick to trying to finish off an opponent instead of pretending he is sugar ray leonard.

I totally agree wit the o.p.

I like Calzaghe by and large but I think his showboating looks soooooo goofy and irritating. he did it far too much as well.

You are the King of the Oscarsexuals, what the F are you bitching about? According to all Oscar fans, Chavez was in his prime in 1996.

It was sad. Duran was 58 years old in 1998. But watching RJJ get assraped by a Welshman? That was more fun than footage of the 9th round of Hopkins-DLH. Wait,....almost as much fun!:hi:

I really don't mind showboating a bit, but he was doing it excessively, and I agree the thread starter, he looked really stupid doing that showboating.

I also thought Jones looked equally ******ed doing his showboating in the Tito fight.

his style is very ugly to watch(kinda looks and moves like a rooster in the ring) and the way he showboats just doesn't suit his fighting style. Showboating suits Roy jones JR and Naseem Hamed cause of their slickness, fluidity and crowd pleasing explosive style, for some reason when Calzaghe showboats it seems too forced and awkward and he looks goofy and weird doing it cause he has no fluidity.

Not taking away from joes abilities as a fihgter. He's great, no question but he looks awkward and goofy showboating it does not suit the way he fights and his personality outside of the ring. It's more suited for flashy fighters wiht obnoxious personalities outside of the ring not humle small town folk like Calzaghe.

Joe has always showboated...it is a part of his style...if you've seen all of his fights you would realise that...

In the jones fight I think it was more of a psychological thing, to show he wasn't hurt by jones as well as to show the fans. I didn't think it looked that stupid, although I'll admit at points I did wish he would just get on with fighting and take Jones out, as he could've, so perhas he did overdo it.

I do remember some classic moments of the past though, when he span round Bika and tapped him on the top of the head. Perhaps it's not everyones cup of tea and admittedy he did get several firm headbutts laid firmly on his head afterwards lol.

It is what it is...it is a pyschological tool to get into the head of the opponent and the judges.

In Calzaghe's case, he utilized it very well in this fight. It told Jones that you can't hurt me and it told the judges that he was taking over the fight.

Take it for what it is!!
