Quintana put a lesson on PW. His footwork was great. He beat him both on the inside where PW is usually great and also on the outside. Which is weird considering PW has a very active jab and an 82" wingspan.

Paul Williams looked bad in that fight, skinny and slow. No energy.

Williams was vastly overrated, notice how the guys who proclaimed he'd be some P4P star have not mentioned it since?

Quintana was underrated, Cotto blew him out despite the fact that he showed in the Cotto fight that he had skills himself. People get hung up on hype, not quality, they were more impressed with Clottey that night than Cotto because of the percieved notion that Margarito was such a badass.

But yeah, Quintana schooled him, if not for his suspect stamina, he'd have likely stopped Paul.

Quintana's not a bad fighter, one of the better Welter's and nobody gave him any regard because of the way Cotto bulldozed him, shows what they knew.

Oh im with you Amsty. I always said PW was just hype and his performance against a B level fighter in Margarito proved it to me. People gave him too much credit in that fight just because of Margos hype. In a sense he stole it.

If Quintana had better stamina i could give him a shot at beating nearly all WW right now. His boxing ability is pretty damn good. Chin is good and power is also good.

However Cotto looks to have his number.

Thats the perfect trainer for him. Ironic that he trained Hearns and also He is known for making his fighters use the jab.

remember floyd fans were so excited PW got rid of margo, after that they were using him as an excuse for floyd and cotto not happening saying cotto NEEDS to beat williams.

it was a good thing williams-cotto did not happen, i seriously believe cotto would have hurt him baaad

Cotto would do a bad number on Floyd, just in a much more competitive and longer fight. Floyd fans bring up how Malignaggi won rounds off Cotto, well, big difference between 140 and 147 for Miguel.

On top of this, what does it say about Shane almost beating Miguel?

Says a lot about Shane in my opinion.

Agree with everything you said in this thread. I have watched the Cotto v Quintana fight many times, and Quintana showed very good boxing ability. Just got beaten by a better fighter. The thing is with Cotto, is that he fights very smart. If he doesn't think he will KO someone, he doesn't mind losing a round here or there as long as he is confident he is in front, especially at 140. This is exactly what happened vs Paulie. Cotto was always in full control of the fight however. The fight vs Shane did show just what a great fighter Shane is at welter, and that he does perhaps get under rated due to his losses to Forrest and Wright.

I meant PW is great on the inside and also Quintana beat PW in the outside which is where PW should have dominated.

It says Shane is a freak of nature. He is not even in his prime and went life and death with the best WW right now. And dont kid yourselves PBF is no the best WW. Since being here he has fought only 2 WW. One was legit in Zab the other not so much in Baldomir, he is a great guy but no elite. Then Hatton a light WW and DLH an old light middle.

To me its 1. Cotto 2. PBF 3. Mosley.
Any fight between these 3 are 50-50 IMO

The fight against Shane showed just what you said also. Cotto knew he was not gonna take Shane out and showed maturity in not taking stupid risks against a very very good figher in Shane.
What he did those last few rounds showed me he is ready for PBF.
He countered and outboxed Shane Mosley on his backfoot. His movement was great. He did not run but engaged off his backfoot and made Shane look bad.

i still maintain that margarito can beat paul williams. marg just fought a dumb fight by not getting started earlier when he did which was like the 8th round he was hitting pwill pretty easily. if marg would have won the 12th round you can make the case for a draw in that particular fight.

Before the Quintana fight, Paul Williams was dubbed --- "The Most Feared".
Despite an undefeated record over mostly no named opponents (many with losing records) other than Margo, he was hyped as the King of the welters.
He was suppose to destroy Quintana in 3 rounds or less.
After watching the Quintana fight a few times, his deficiencies and limitations were obviously apparent.
He would have difficulty with any of the top welters and if he were to fight Margo again, Margo would roll over him easily.
Margo just started too slow the 1st time.
So much for the once most feared.

Although I don't agree on Cotto being first right now, after he beats Gomez and then Margo/Cintron winner, he should have the #1 spot. Mayweather rematching Oscar doesn't cut it for me.
