I have the older K brother at around 20 all-time.

But h2h, both men at their best, I don't think there's more than five or six I would pick over him.

You're acting like a fan right now. His standout performance was an 8/4, 7/5 type win over post-Lewis Tua. He then struggled to with Williamson, Oquendo, Golota (draw), and McCline, before getting his ass handed to him by Wlad.

Your scorecard for the Vitali fight is also not in line with the judges or Lederman, but you did manage to point out that Hide won a round against Vitali.

Gomez had fewer opportunities at heavyweight, but that doesn't make him worse h2h. He washed, Vyrches, McCallx2, and Sam. Plus, he's the only guy between them who put together a dominant title reign.

I am a fan of Byrd, I've said that, however any objective analysis places Byrd way above Gomez. The performance against Vitali, against Tua, against Holyfield. Gomez quite simple hasn't fought at that level. Once Vitali retired, Byrd was the number 1 ranked HW in the world up until his fight with Wladimir. To be the best HW in the world you needed to beat Chris Byrd. The two fighters are not even close to being comparable and you're actually the first person I've ever read who has suggested they are.

And neither of the two put together a dominant reign.

My card is the same as Ledermans bar 1 round, round 3. I don't know what the judges rbr scores are but I've posted my rbr right here for all to see.

Yes I mentioned the Hide come from behind victory, I've said it's an old habit from the days of the Tko6 mega thread.

Sure, Byrd is higher in all time rankings at heavyweight overall than Gomez. But that doesn’t mean he was at higher level h2h. I’d expect Gomez to 10-2 Williamson and McCline, 7-5 or tko Golota, and 12-0 a one armed ancient Holyfield. He’d either beat Tua wider than Byrd or get stopped. I don’t try think Byrd would beat Vrychys quite as easily as Gomez did.

I’d favor him over Byrd because he wasn’t easy to counter and had a harder jab and left hand.

But Gomez never fought anyone at that level, never. Byrd did, and had great success doing so.

Vitali never rematching Byrd does hurt his legacy. Especially because for a while they were the best two heavyweights on the planet.

Vrychys was 8 in the Ring annual for 2007. Gomez is the guy who knocked him off the ratings.

Tua was 5 the year before Byrd. Golota, Oquendo, McCline and Williamson were not ranked in the year before fighting Byrd.

I see this as politics, not h2h ability.

BTW 2005 is the worst heavyweight Ring annual of our lifetimes and probably the only time the number 1 retired back to back in that short of a span.

    Ahh that's worse Vitali then.

I assumed rounds 1 and 2 were injury free and they were the ones he won big. If he was injured all the way through the quit job is quite a bad look.

It's all subjective, I've just never once heard anyone try to claim Gomez was as good as Byrd.

Based on what you have input so far, that's a compliment, so I'll take it.
