Head to head. 15 rounds. 20 ft ring. Arthur Mercante ref. Let your informed eyeballs work. How would you spend the mortgage betting on this one?

Honestly Layne could punch and Lyle could get hit so i dont think he gets a free night so long as Layne shows up in shape, but I would very obviously favor Lyle, even if he hits the canvas. Hes shown he has that dog in him and can continue the fight. Lyle via brutal knockout mid rounds

I went with Lyle but Rex Layne’s career was looking pretty good before the Marciano loss. I don’t know if that fight ruined him or if maybe some stylistic flaw was exposed that future fighters capitalized on. I really don’t know the history there. But he compiled a very good record within just about two years of turning pro and beat a few contenders. Had a good punch too

He brawled with a young explosive hungry Marciano, who was ruining everyone at the time. Layne never recovered, his front teeth even got knocked out through the mouth guard. Typically the type of injury that takes the prime out of someone

Not that hard a fight for Layne. He’s gonna outlast Lyle who has zero stamina and KO him late.

For all intents & purposes, I'd say Lyle is a bigger & more powerful version of Layne, so I'd expect him to win by stoppage at some point.

Layne had some flaws that were already readily apparent from his fights w/ Satterfield & Brion, but I think it's obvious that his back-to-back brutal KO losses to Marciano & Charles took something out of his chin as well. Prior to those fights, he was very seldom dropped, but afterwards he was seemingly dropped at least once in almost every other fight.
