Since your pfp is Mike Tyson, who aged like milk, I'll explain.

SOME FIGHTERS AGE DIFFERENTLY THAN OTHERS

28-32 is considered an fighter's prime years, but SOME are the exception to this, like Walcott, or Dempsey.

Walcott became more crafty with age.

Dunno where you got the 32 = bad 36 thing. So are you saying Archie Moore was like 60 in today's division standards when he fought Ali?

Walcott got 104 chances to grab the title and finally prevailed. He didn't so much wrest the title as won it by attrition and indifference. The division would heat up for real in the 60's.

I think Walcott does well in the 60s. In fact, he'd have a solid chance at going undefeated vs a prime Ali's rogues gallery.

    Hah!

Have you checked his record? His consistency?

I have him losing to Liston, Patterson,, Terrell, Quarry and a young Frazier.

His consistency may be in question, but the Walcott of the first Marciano fight could possibly beat any of these. And I'd pick that Walcott over the under prepared Liston of 64.

The Walcott of the first fight couldn't beat one of the crudest, most physically limited heavyweights to ever come down the pike. He will forever have age as a mitigating factor because he was, in fact, very old.

Picking walcott from a fight where he lost (rocky 1) to dominate another era when he barely managed to get the title in his own era and had over a dozen losses requires lots of mental gymnastics.

Its like saying the 40 year old klitschko who was KOed by anthony joshua would go undefeated against everyone in the 80's and become undisputed.

It's in dispute if many other 200ish and under could have. Marciano would have a very realistic chance of having beaten any 200 and under fighter that night.

The idea that the division dramatically improved in the 60s is ridiculous. Machen was a near-contemporary of Marciano and he beat Quarry and when shot gave Frazier a good fight. Not really what you would expect of a crappy era unless the 70s also sucked.

An ancient Patterson beat a prime Bonavena and was arguably robbed against Jimmy Ellis.

Jack Hurley, the great all-around boxing man, thought that Rex Layne had a lot of raw talent, but believed that Layne was rushed into facing top fighters far too early. He felt Layne had a lot to learn and needed more seasoning before taking such a big step. When watching the bout between Layne and Bob Satterfield in person, Hurley was appalled that Layne took so much punishment and had made so little progress since he had first saw him.
