González is getting stamped by long jabs delivered with a steady beat from outside. González puts his guard up. Vargas falls in and scrabbles at the flanks with uppers. Vargas is trying to leap up and catch Vargas with a right hand, but is only eating double jabs every time he tries. González ducks and weaves in, but before he can get set and throw anything is bombed with a left hook and sent reeling. Wild up-and-over left hook by González, just missing. HUGE skewering right hand on the pecs by Vargas. González's head is snapped back by a few jabs. Vargas warned for something - elbows on the follow-through, maybe? Half a minute left. Vargas salutes the crowd. Long jabs by Vargas. González is pressing inside, jerking his face back away from the jab but still getting tickled.

I was running on fumes, had been up for 18 hours (most of it spent wrangling my son and his two young cousins as they ran around my grandmother's pool and then on a boat) on ninety minutes of sleep.

My eyes were literally closing involuntarily for most of the Vargas fight, and I passed out right there on the sofa just seconds after hitting "submit" on that eighth round post. :dead


Yeah, last night was harder work for Rey than I'd have liked to see, especially given how much I've been hyping the kid up. :yep González was game as hell, though.

 

Shame, as I'd have liked to see Zamora Silva vs. Moreno III.
