Yes, several hours late, I'm well aware - but I found the video posted by the GAB (the Filipino sports commission) on their FaceBook page and didn't see an existing RBR on here for it...and still don't actually know the result. So I'll be watching/scoring unspoiled.

Rhenrob Andales vs. Jenuel Maturan Lauza II, 8 rounds @ strawweight

 

Lauza, 103lbs, in black trunks.

Andales in blue trimmed with red, weighing in @ 105lbs even.

 

Round 1

Andales is charging in, pasting Lauza with a 1-2-1-2 and nearly pinning him on the ropes. Lauza is slippery, able to roll out the side door and pave the road behind him with some jabs. Lauza cautiously heel-toes around the ring, still brick-laying with the left jab, stiff & lumpy from the chest. Andales presses him into the ropes with some chopping flurries and Lauza tries hooking free. Andales is keeping a high tight guard while darting in and out with the 1-2. Lauza is pressed against the ropes and hit downstairs. He slackens his shoulders from their sockets, fists dangling by his knees, and loads up some pendulous shots to Andales' body to chase him out to center ring. Good body work from both men. Fierce uppercutting battle in a phonebooth, each keeping their forearms clasped against their faces in between two and three punch salvos. Nice toe-to-toe action. More - and cleaner - stuff from Andales, but Lauza getting his say as well.

Round 2

Andales is flying at Lauza, immediately putting the jab in his face. Lauza plays a little possum, letting Andales push him back a few seemingly involuntary steps with the jab before exploding with hooks to his midsection, now forcing Andales to retreat. Lauza having tremendous success fortifying his position, just hacking around with upside-down karate style knife edge blows into the outer corners of the waistband, and bending his knees to put uppercut combos together, into the belly. Andales is looping rights up over the guard by Lauza is doing a good job of catching them on the back of his raised left arm, waiting out the storm and then unloading more body shots. They're taking turns corralling each other from one set of ropes to another. Andales mostly headhunting and getting blocked. Lauza doing the best work downstairs. Andales gets in some nice left hooks to the body as well just before the bell.

Round 3

Andales is starting to reassert himself with a combination of jabs on the face, right-handed chops atop the head, and body shots. Lauza is ducking and swerving as he is backed across the ring, trying to load and deliver uppercuts as he goes but lacking the leverage as he is kept constantly backpedaling. Andales hurts him with an innocuous looking flurry off the jab and tries strong-arming him into the corner. Lauza bends over deeply and braces up against Andales, driving his shoulder into his gut and pumping madly away with body shots, defiantly, staying out in open water. Andales is sweeping big hooks around the guard and just grazing as Lauza puts chin to chest and hunkers down with his gloves over his ears.

Round 4

Andales is killing that body now, flipping shots in from his flanks into the navel of Lauza, backing him up consistently. Lauza is slowly but surely beginning to slow his step and lower his guard, letting Andales surprise him with some big hooks to his temples and jaw when left momentarily unprotected. Lauza is still doubled over for much of the way as he traverses an invisible conveyor belt into the ropes, with Andales pouring the leather on him, but Lauza is still able to block or absorb much of it on arms crossed over his lowered face. Lauza is taking BIG swings almost straight vertically skyward with the uppercut after waiting until the last moment with Andales flurrying his way inside. Lauza just missing.

Round 5

Andales is cuffing Lauza on the nape with his left fist or wrist, hooking down at him as Lauza ducks forward and presents the back of the head repeatedly. Lauza is clipped with some uppercuts while leaning into Andales. Big shove against the ropes and chopping/downward-hooking combos by Andales. Lauza is keeping his knees bent almost constantly, alternating between folding himself perpendicularly to rest his forehead against his opponent's façade and reverting to a seated position with his buttocks alighting to spring lightly on a middle rope. Andales is throwing mostly weak arm punches now, exhausted from the continued effort of muscling in close and wrestling Lauza onto the ropes, but is still outworking him by a large margin. Light uppercuts to chest and face by Andales, with only a few isolate body counters from Lauza.

Round 6

Andales is clattering his fists off the sides of the head as Lauza bravely propels himself inside, over and over. Lauza is starting to find a little success with a hard looping right while planting his rear foot and twisting his entire body around counter-clockwise. It mostly crashes into Andales' left bicep, although some do graze his chin. Andales keeps jabbing & flurrying, dictating the pace and overwhelming Lauza, who slips late while Andales is punching but the referee decrees it not a knockdown.

Round 7

Andales is looking for the big kibosh now. Huge right hands down the pipe by a reinvigorated Andales, no more arm-punching. Lauza is battling him off with all he's got, ripping body hooks so hard it sends his own gum shield flying out from his gaping mouth. Time out to reinsert it. Time in. Andales is pummeling the body, putting Lauza in a corner. Left uppercut penetrating between the gloves by Andales. Lauza takes a pair of chops on his face and is backed into a corner once more. Andales is clasping his palms over his face, screening out the desperate counter overhands thrown by Lauza as he is propped up against the turnbuckle with Andales breaking his defenses only to place a few accurate uppercuts or take a half-step back to line up a 1-2.

Round 8

Andales is throwing fluid jabs, crosses and hooks straight out from his upper chest and retracting to his starting point. Sharp execution on these combos, ignoring Lauza's big overhand counters, letting them clang off the shoulders or forearms while Andales just lands through Lauza's punches. Heavy body shot by Andales. Lauza down to a knee, could have been from the body shot or could have been a push-down, officially ruled a slip. Andales is pushing Lauza into a corner, eating a few counter left hooks but landing half a dozen flurrying shots for each one. Lauza very tired, able to summon one big arcing shot every five seconds or so, during which time Andales is just laying into him. Lauza finally officially dropped with an uppercut to his chin while floundering against the ropes, sat on his ass, but somehow the referee decides THAT was a slip, waving no. Bell sounds.

The lack of power isn't really so much an issue down at minimum-weight, as very few people are 1-punch kayo artists in the division...but ArAr is only 19, and presumably will fill out and find himself in the fly range somewhere, and there it could be a bit more of an issue not having the pop to get opponents' respect...

Decent fighter, though, fun to watch - even if seeing him ever crack the domestic top 5 at 105lbs (let alone the more stacked 108lbs) is a bit hard to envision.
