Jamie Moore will put his European light-middleweight title on the line against Ryan Rhodes on October 23. The Salford-born boxer had hoped to be fighting WBC light-welterweight champion Sergio Martinez but protracted negotiations between the two parties have failed to come to an agreement. Instead Argentinean Martinez is now in talks to fight Christophe Canclaux of France, forcing Moore to look at other options. The 30-year-old will now take on fellow Englishman Rhodes, who is the reigning WBC International and British champion, instead. Next best "I would love to be fighting Martinez for the WBC world belt next, but a fight with Rhodes is the next best thing," he told the Manchester Evening News. "It's the only domestic fight that I've got anny interest in. It's a big fight here. "I have got more to lose than Ryan Rhodes. I didn't have to take the fight, but I've always taken the tough ones." Moore claimed the European strap back in March when he knocked out veteran Italian Michele Piccirillo at Robin Park Centre in Wigan. He successfully defended the belt in May, needing just two rounds to see off the challenge of Roman Dzuman. However, Rhodes should provide a sterner test for the southpaw having won his last seven fights since moving down from middleweight following his failure to take the WBU title from Gary Lockett back in 2006
