i've damaged my ribs pretty badly in sparring..

it happened last friday and the pain wasnt too bad so i carried on training all week. gradually the pain has got worse so I didnt train yesterday and wont train today. i havent sparred since the injury either.

its painful when i breath in and when i bend down etc, also when i sleep on my side its painful.

i have no insurance and cant afford to go to the doctors

anyone have any advice? someone at the gym said its bruised ribs and i should take 4 weeks off sparring and not stretch too much when i shadow box or hit the bags.

Probably bruised. That sort of injury takes a long time to heal if you're not careful.
If you have a large bandage, it helps to wrap your ribs up so they aren't moving around a lot when you breath, sleep etc.
I would take a few days off from any exercise and see how you feel after that. But definitely no sparring until it feels better.

    Drink lots of pineapple juice.
    Get an xray.

    Thank god for the NHS!

Yeh NHS dont look so bad now lol. I work in a doctors surgery, i had a similar thing. Sounds exactly the same actually, doctor at my work said probably bruised or cartlidge damage. It took weeks but it did heal eventually. Just had to be really carefull not to get hit there again

I had a similar problem a month ago, had to skip about 3 weeks of sparring, but it healed, just gotta be careful, then again u could have a more serioud injury if you are having trouble breathing then go see a doctor.

Just rest, it'll heal on it's own.
