Iv always wondered about this guy. Apart from his excellent grappling skills and a low kick offensively he was very poor. His hands were terrible. Even when on the mat he never went for many subs and instead preferred to grapple his opponents to death eeking out pretty boring decisions. Also his take downs skills still left much to be desired. That said i think he would have done very well under UFC rules. Thoughts?
Never forget his fight with Sakuraba in the Pride MW tournament. Jesus, what a terrible kicking he gave him. You're right about his stand-up though, big amateurish swings were the order of the day. Think he would have done well in UFC though, just with his brilliant grappling skills. There was talk of him going to the UFC not long ago, wasn't there?
Nah... he was a very good fighter. He pretty much took on the best of the best at the time and held his own. I'd like to see him compete again... it looks like he will only compete it the UFC come calling though :verysad http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2011/9/6...s-he-turned-down-strikeforce-deal-eyeing-2012 Lynchburg
Wrong end is an understatment... That **** was ****ing BRRRRUUUTAL!!! I swear.. I'm starting to believe more and more that the UFC got lucky they didnt sign these guys in their prime. Jon Jones, Evans, Davis, Griffin, Cain, Lesnar, JDS, etc... All would **** their pants facing prime Shogun, Rampage, Wandy, Fedor, Crocop...
I've been watching more and more and more and hell even a PRIDE Krazy Horse Bennett would shake the UFC LW division up :yep (sorry Im a big krazy horse fan)
Yea that was all jokes but I am a legit fan. His antics are beyond insane but DAMN he packs a punch...with SERIOUS ground work he could've been good.
Prime Page was in the UFC. I love Wand, but a prime version would still be too small and unevolved to compete with the LHW's today. He wouldn't be the MW champ either. Also, Arona would've been hard in the UFC had he came over after the buyout. Cage + Elbows would favor his boring ass style. I don't think he would've been champ tho.
