For my spanish speaking AMIGOS...Here is a short documentary on the life of one the greatest Mexican boxers, perhaps the second greatest after JCC , Ricardo "El Finito" Lopez https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUOVn66jwyE
in my top 10 of all time. honestly people look at fighters and try and pick out there flaws? IE, weak chin, bad stamina , no heart etc etc its sad that the one flaw i find with finito is he was simply born into a weightclass that did not get alot of attention. if he was a welterweight his name would be very well known and highly regarded. nacho berestein really worked wonders with him
Overrated to the tee. He reigned in a weak Era of the division. If Ivan Calderon would of retired before he fought Segura he too would be given the same praise.
Doesn't make my top ten from Mexico. 10 - Castillo 09 - Barrera 08 - Morales 07 - Marquez 06 - Canto 05 - Zarate 04 - Saldivar 03 - Sanchez 02 - Olivares 01 - Chavez Anything good in the doc? What's the gist?
He was Don Nacho Beristein's greatest fighter. In his prime had great defense, offense, and ring generalship. He was the prototype that the Marquez bros mirrored and tried their best to fight like him. He was known to give them both whippins in sparring til yrs later after his best days lay behind him the legendary bros finally held their own against the tiny master. If anything, Dinamita and Rafa were the poor man's version of El Finito. I'd like to also clear the rumors about him not fighting Carbajal or Chiquita Gonzalez, but at one point Finito did offer to fight against La Chiquita when Gonzalez was champion, but it was Gonzalez that refused to fight Finito, respectively. After beating a killer puncher and legend in Carbajal, twice, I wouldn't really diss on Gonzalez for not fighting Lopez. It took an undefeated mini brawler in Alvarez for Lopez to finally meet his match, tho Finito was much slower and past his prime. Still, 2 classics were born. Even a past his prime Finito was something to behold.
