After the first knockdown, Lopez just goes straight back to his boxing...in fact, by the end of round 4, Lopez is the one on the backfoot, the fight looks like it did in round 3. Then, a repeat, then the left handed coup-de-grace. That's how you win the title, so many guys would have begun to over-reach at that point, missing and rushing. Lopez was a cool character, not as menacing as a Monzon or a Liston, but perhaps even more controlled. Lopez was a compete and two-handed puncher even at this, reasonably early stage.
I have this on DVD, yet to watch it. Will have to watch it now. Ohashi impressed me against Chang with his determination and precise straight shots.
Well, his precise straight shots are for **** here my friend. Pwned, if you'll pardon the expression.
Sweet... left right left followed by a left right left.. and it's over, done, finished, finito. Remember, old-timers and new-comers, the greatest of boxers are born, not made.
To me, I think he is the only fighter the last 20 years that I call great. Lots of very good fighters, but only 1 great fighter. a pleasure to watch.
How do you justify that position? Whitaker? Jones Jr.? Holyfield? Barrera? Morales? Pacquiao? Hopkins?
Chang would've went right through him. Lopez, aesthetically, looks near perfect, but his resume sees him fall short as an ATG.
He looks brilliant from range, but the question will always linger as to how he'd fare against elite opposition of differing styles, in particular any manner of top flight in-fighters/swarmers. Something tells me he'd be a lot less in control against that type of fighter.
Simple. Lots of very good fighters & 1 great fighter. I don't throw around the flowery adjectives the way guys like Lampley does and therefore have used that term on 30 different occasions throughout the years.
I agree, but i still think it's important to remember that he never got destroyed by any of those fighters (because he never fought them, yes), so it is ultimately speculation to simply assume he'd be run through.
