I mean, I think that voting for Lopez makes sense, and he'll win the poll, but he's among the most overrated fighters on the forum for me, and Calderon is among the most underrated. For the actual fight, the Lopez jab is everything. If he can get it working right, he can win, if he doesn't, I think he would lose. There's a wide range of other things that could happen with that punch in between of course. But Lopez won't win one second of one round at mid range so he better keep his man on the run.

This is pretty much how I see it going too. Lopez was an excellent fighter and he rightly gets his accolades - unlike so many lower weight fighters - for what he accomplished but he is certainly overrated and not as unbeatable or perfect as some make him out to be. I think Finito would struggle mightily to get his jab going against someone as slippery and mobile as Calderon. Ivan would eventually make his way up close and would give Finito fits. Calderon and Chocolatito are the two guys I think have the best shot of beating Lopez at 105.

Nobody puts Ricardo in the corner…but Calderon is far & away the best guy he’s ever met. It’s competitive. I wish more of the younger brigade watched Lopéz. I’ll be the odd man out in this thread & call him just about the finest example of a Boxer in my lifetime (40 years).

It’s an intriguing match up between 2 great pure boxing stylists. Even though Lopez has more in his offensive arsenal I think Calderon’s quickness and slippery defense can pose some trouble for Finito. It all comes down to Lopez’s jab and aggression if he’s able to mount a sustained attack to slow Calderon down. I think Lopez would be able to dish out enough punishment on Calderon to win a decision in.

A guy like Hilario Zapata would be another lower weight southpaw technician that can pose a stylistic problem for Lopez but would be an even tougher fight for him IMO.
