Probably the smallest, obscure match up I can make at the moment! Fly champ Montana, who was a natural Straw and Light fly, vs the Ricardo Lopez we all know. Pick any weight from Straw (105) to Fly (112). Montana was a natural light Fly when he beat Midget Wolgast for the title, and showed some fine skills against him, quick feet and a very sharp left. He has the better win, but can he cope with the fundamental offensive dynamo that was Lopez? Or would Lopez's power and skill seize the day? An interesting fantasy match up that I'm sure will get no replies

You may be right (this reply does not count). I have not watched any Montana. I have watched a fair bit of Lopez, and want to take a deeper look at him in the next few months. Not sure what there is to read or watch of Montana so I may not ever have an opinion outside of an ill informed one. Good topic (you are right will not get replies lol)... But since you started this....what is your thoughts
Well, that's the thing. I don't exactly know what to think... Montana looks great in the bout with Wolgast, but checking out his record it's a bit spotty, though he seemed to have a strong run before winning the title. This was a very strong era for the weight though, so I'm probably not informed enough. Montana has the better opponents and wins, but this is H2H, and the limited footage on Montana doesn't help. I think he causes Lopez massive trouble, and be his best opponent by far, and I'd like to favour him, but I can't really. I posted this hoping there was someone more knowledgable, as if they were anywhere they'd probably be on this site lol.
So, over 2 years later, are there any nerds who will chime in? Am I right to veer to Montana on account of the Wolgast win or am I just a hipster contrarian?
Montana has a rapier like left, great stance and speed. Turns to his left and holds centre very well. Jabs when the other guy jabs to offset them, and that's a feat considering it's a dynamic ATG speed freak like Wolgast. Still, that very low left hand is a worry. It's obviously done to bait (I mean, it is comically low) but even with strategies and speed Lopez would still use it to land hard, full powered right hands. He's just too good not to. Can Montana take it? Well, considering Wolgast was competing as a bantam for a while before this fight, which was at 112, and was naturally bigger and stronger, he may be able to. But we all know power isn't just raw strength and size, and Lopez, mechanically, is up there with the best.
When Pacino said "Say hello to my little friend!" he was actually talking about Small Montana. Some people think he was talking about a gun but that was not what he was talking about. He was talking about this dude. And that is what he was talking about, to be clear.
