If Marquez is your standard of perfect boxing, even then Ricardo Lopez can't be a poorman Marquez because he is an older graduate of Nacho school. However thats not the case, Ricardo Lopez shares basal traits with Marquez as he shared the same teacher with Marquez. Ricardo Lopez style started with a strong counter punching foundation, evolved into perfected boxing as he matured, his style is to be compared with Sugar Ray Robinson & Alexis Arguello not Marquez :nono

Marquez evolved in a diff direction he focused more on counter punching in both hands. Which made him look extremely smart vs Pacman :yep ...His boxing limitations, showed vs Chris John & Mayweather, he only fairs well against aggressive fighters who allow him to use his counter punching accuracy.

To be fair, Marquez style evolved into perfected one dimensional negative counter punching. Ricardo Lopez style shares basal elements that are a small % of their whole style...Both are just diff fighters

In general Ricardo Lopez is the better boxer p4p, the better puncher p4p. So Marquez is reasonably inferior to Ricardo Lopez in everything, besides the $

he was "punching harder" defending his title against guys with 4 pro fights or 19 losses. Lopez fought shitty competition

There is no shitty competition in Straw weight, mainly cause all fighters there are hardened natives of the weight.

They only exist at that weight for boxing...Unlike Softer divisions, where part time everyday casual Minimum weights put on relaxed weight and end up fighting to get $ as blown ups

I love Finito Lopez great text book style but he was not better, his resume is not great the level of opposition at those weights have to be questioned.

Like I said I rate Lopez as Mayweather today, but Lopez could have done himself a favor by going Undisputed in Minimumweight.

At his era the greatest Minimum weight was Vorapin, he had 20 IBF title defenses & Lopez should have beat him in his prime. However, he didn't take the risk & the fights vs Alvarez were disappointing. Yet he is still the greatest Minimumweight of all time...I rate him around Mayweather ATG status Which I currently been convinced to lower...As interaction with other posters helped me see things I ignored

Mayweather has the advantage of being active today, so any wins will only move him north of Ricardo Lopez (An Excellent Boxer)

Mayweather's resume, a 4 division champion, with 3 lineal titles, beating notable hall of famers and being one of the best prime H2H fighters ever, craps on what Lopez did.

I don't rate Mayweather for his divisions, otherwise Pacman, DLH, Marquez will be above or near him...It means little to nothing even young Abner Mares was able to accomplish this theme faster than Mayweather...(I look negatively upon it & only think it should be done at the end of a fighters career...if he wants to seek true challenges...not just a belt)

My comparison of Mayweather vs Lopez

Mayweather & Lopez also on the same level of engaging fights (Not seeking fights with dangerous fighters)
Mayweather & Lopez have very similar dominance patterns...I equate Alvarez with Castillo
Lopez Advantage is that he holds a record 21 WBC title defenses in Minimumweight, the same belt Mayweather favored
Mayweather Advantage is his better opponents

Mayweather strategic advantage is that he can improve his ATG status, because he is still active & can further empower his ATG status

How is Mayweather and Lopez on the same level?

Mayweather has been through 4 weights fighting top ranked contenders and champions. Lopez stayed at 105 for FAR too long fighting cans.

Had Lopez ducked Alvarez by moving up to pick up titles at 108, 112 & 115

He will be ranked lower in my ATG list.

Crossing over a solid contender, to move up and pick blown up fighters is negative ranking & meaning less

If Mayweather moves to 160lbs and beats the lesser title holder, it will mean very little...besides the credit I will assign to the win it self vs a lesser title holder. If he moves to 160lbs and draws with GGG that will be positive credit on Mayweather ATG resume, because its the quality of his opponent that matters.

Keith Thurman is more dangerous than anybody at 160lbs thats not GGG.

Prime Mosley, Tszyu, Margarito & Williams are all fights that Mayweather would have taken if he was seeking hard fights...Advisers/Managers guide fighters in a financial mindset focusing on the short term...Thats why Mayweather left 130

You're not making sense AT ALL. You do know Mayweather fought for world titles at 130 right and beat P4P champions there? More than Lopez can ever say

and Why are you holding Mayweather at 147 to Lopez' standards at 105? Mayweather has already moved up and is basically at his maxxed weight at junior middle

it was lopez who should have pushed himself to do more, while mayweather is fighting another young champion who will be bigger by 20 lbs on fight night
