I've haven't heard too much about Ricardo Lopez, and i was hoping some knowledgeable posters could give me an insight about his career. I've heard about his skills, and i am currently watching a youtube vid that one poster recommended to another, highlighting his defence, footwork etc. I also noticed that he was unbeaten, so i thought i would have heard more about him. Is he in the HoF? How good was his competition? How do you rate him? or anything else to add?
RIcardo Lopez is the most perfect text book fighter ive ever seen and thats saying aloooooooooooot!! He is already in both HOF and never lost a fight (he had one draw) only guy that ever gave him fits was Rosendo ALvarez (just that style to trouble him) but Lopez pretty much dominated the rest of 50 opponents. He was so accurate and a very good puncher... His competiton wasnt the best but not as bad as some critics say he easily blew out a tough Sorjaturong (who kod Chiquita) and Had his way with a very talented Will Grigsby, Easily kod the heralded Alex Nene Sanchez... He also beat alot of former champs and top contenders. In my opinion he was an all time great and it wasnt his fault he didnt get big fights with Chiquita and Carbajal who were busy fighting eachother 3x. Ricardo was under Don king and the other 2 under Arum... Those guys had problems doing buisness between superstars in the heavier divisions so they werent gonna do it with some jr fly/straweights.. Plus i dont think Arum wanted his guys messing with Lopez... For as great as Chiquita and Carbajal were id bet the ranch both would have got whupped by Lopez. Lopez isnt just one of the greatest Mexican fighters of all time, but one of the greatest fighters ive seen period!! .... In the classic ive gotten Slack for saying Lopez is a top 30 pfp atg .. But ill stick to my reply and say if he had stiffer opposition id put him in the close to top 10 or top 15 of all time:bbb
I agree 100% with you! he's my fav. Mexican fighter all time, over Chavez, he was a master in the ring and a true gentleman outside, there was nothing he couldn't do: great ring generalship, defence, speed ,power in both hands, combinations, and a great chin, if i'm right he was droped only once in his carrer, a true atg.
Most of his title defenses are youtubed and are well worth checking out. While the quality of opposition isn't fantastic (strawweight wasn't a particularly deep division at the time), Finito generally handled the better fighters he faced as easily as his lower-tier challengers.
