Exactly mayorga would be to big with to much power for Alexis. H2h at his best weight arguello is trouble for anyone but at welter he is to small.

With all due respect to Vernon Forrest, he's nowhere near the skill level of Alexis Arguello!

An alexis was shot at 140. He didnt fit the weight to begin with. I love arguello but he is not big enough. Ricardo had concussive power at 147 an a concrete chin.

Competing against the greats at 147 lbs would be a huge task for a naturally smaller Arguello. But we're talking about competing against greats at 147 lbs like Robinson, Leonard and Hearns.
Fighters like Mayorga, greats like Arguello pick apart regardless of the size difference.

Arguello would be to Mayorga what Duran was to Barkley, only imo the size and skill disparity between the two parrallels favors Alexis.

Arguello looked slim even in fighting at 140 lbs. His frame could easily add a few more pounds and still look great at the weight.

To much is made of Arguello's losses to Pryor that for some simplistic and ridiculous reason people calculate to Arguello not being able to handle the weight.
Its a whole other thread, but imo the Arguello who lost to a cheating Pryor would have dismantled Kostya Tszyu at 140 lbs, but thats just my opinion of the caliber of fighter of Alexis Arguello!

For stylistic reasons, imo Forrest is a much tougher fight for Arguello at 147 lbs than Mayorga would be.
Though I'd still make Arguello the favorite to beat Forrest! :bbb

we arent talking about some fake ass legend like Julio Chavez here...we are talking about an actual skilled boxer Arguello.

Alexis wins by a lopsided decision.

Arguello is my Idol & i have been watching boxing for 50 years & even though he is my Idol i have to try not to be bias.Arguello has never fought at 147 & actually fought most of his fights as a 126 pound feather weight who moved up to eventually win belts at 130-135 & would have won at 140 had he fought anyone else besides Pryor who i believe no one would have beat that night.Pryor as we now know took a medicine that open his lungs up (Bottle ?) & in a tough fight like they were in makes all the difference so in the end Pryor cheated.Would Arguello be able to move up to 147 & beat the bigger stronger Mayorga Probably not.R.I.P Arguello

Arguello is my Idol & i have watched boxing for 50 years religously! Arguello fought most of his fights at 126 would eventually move up to win belts at 130-135 & would have won at 140 had he fought anyone else besides Pryor. For Arguello to move up another 7 pounds to 147 to fight the bigger stronger Mayorga would be asking for to much. They both stood 5'10 but Mayorga was much the bigger stronger man.Chavez was not a fake ass legend,he was P4P the 2nd greatest Mexican boxer of all time only behind the great salvador Sanches.

Pryor did cheat we now know in the bottle was a drug that worked quickly to open up his air passage & in a tough brutal fight they were in that makes all the difference. Some say he won the second fight quicker & with out the drug but i say boxing is 50% mental & 50% physical & the mental damage was done in their first fight.ring magazine ranks Pryor vs Arguello 1 the greatest fight of the 1980s.

He'd give Arguello fits because of his awkwardness, but I doubt hed be able to take too many of those sharp counter right hands for long. In the end Arguello is too sharp and too skilled to let Mayorga get away with his shenanigans. Arguello TKO6

147 is a weight division too far for El Flaco, a man who fought at 126.
Mayorga would win and smoke a pack of Marlboros after the fight.
