How did Mayorga manage to defeat Vernon Forrest twice?

Good question although I thought Forrest got robbed in the second fight. Forrest made the mistake of slugging with Mayorga, rather than easily outboxing him from the outside.

Yep, Mayorga ain`t in Carmen`s class, not even close. And you gotta figure Mayo is going to do his usual trash talking before the fight as well, and knowing Carmen he woulda made him pay dearly in the ring for any deragotary remarks made towards him.

    Basilio TKO10 Mayorga

Mayorga harder puncher, both have no skills (relatively). Mayorga by KO.

This one is worse than the Carmen Basilio-Davey Moore thread. Carmen would destroy Mayorga, who is way too easy to hit and who's power would unfaze an iron chinned Basilio.

Basilio was extremely hard to hit, he was better defensively than Pep and Locche combined.

Mayorga goes the distance, and punches Basilio hard.

However, Basilio beat Ray Robinson (I think he won the 2nd fight as well to be honest, though I've never seen the first) and he won't be intimidated by Mayorga (neither have any of the top-line opponents Mayo has faced) and would win wide on pts over 12 or stop Mayorga over 15.

Basilio is not the kind of sharp one-shot puncher that Mayorga gets stopped by (Oscar, Tito, Shane) but his intelligent swarming and ability to change pace throughout a fight would see him through fine at either Welter or 154 (I haven't said 160 as Basilio turned up for his MW fights considerably lighter than the limit, if someone knows the truth please correct me if I'm false)

    Classic!

Basilio would have more fouls than Mayorga had punches. Carmen would have simply out-awfuled him. Ouch.

Basilio had skill and was one of the toughest fighter in the history of the sport. One of my all time favorites. He would knockout Mayorga within 9

Does anyone feel that Mayorga weighing 170 plus pounds come fight night would have an effect on this fight?

Basilio was at a huge disadvantage against the relative giant of Fullmer, and Mayorga could punch far harder then Fullmer.
